ETA, what's your avatar? Only 'cause you asked.... It is a picture of one half of a combustion chamber (ie piston crown) of a Napier Deltic engine. Of the Opposed Piston engines in the world, they have to be the most likely to be designed by Rube Goldberg. Aw, heck. Now I gotta change it.

Quoted: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ef/Napier_deltic_animation_large.gif Thats kinda cool! Never seen anything like it. +1 I had to watch it for a sec to 'get it'. Anyone have an exterior pic of the block or otherwise? |

Not to interrupt the discussion... but IN on the PIF (I haven't seen BHD, either) Ok, back to the cool engine talk! I wonder how much horsepower/torque would be made by one of those engines if it were small enough to fit in, say, a Dodge Ram? Interesting, a rear engine Dodge Ram ??? |

Looks kinda large. Whats the application? Locomotive before the current diesel electric? Diesel Electric locomotives, Fire Pumps, and Marine (Mine sweepers, large PT boats). Big HP (up to 5k HP at 2100 RPM) out of just over 5k cubic in displacement and 15k lbs (dressed). Almost turbine horsepower (but not quite) with piston engine efficiency (but not quite). You get the best (or the worst) of both worlds, all depending on which end of the stick you measure from.
It would be a tough sell trying to fit a Dodge pickup around it, but it might be fun (for someone else) to try..... |

I dunno...I've seen weird things done to vehicles........how about a RR Merlin wedged into a Ford Ranchero?....friend of mine had a Dodge van body sitting on a Chevy Blazer frame and running gear......said it was the best Dodge he had ever owned. |

In, but if i win Im putting the Red Dawn back up in a PIF...I got 2 copies and I really dont need a 3rd...Unless theres some crazy Outsiders outtakes... I've stayed out because I have a copy of "BHD". Would be intested in Red Dawn only. On a side note. 5K HP from 5K cu in's doesn't sound that bad for a diesel. and considering it is 1950's technology. Little tough to fit in a dodge ram, maybe on of the 9 cylinder ones. A better choice would be a chev long horn ![]() ![]() (chevy)
And on a futher side note , I built 2 motor stands for RR merlins for the local air museum. |

Sigh. RIF I wonder how much horsepower/torque would be made by one of those engines if it were small enough to fit in, say, a Dodge Ram? Something along the lines of THIS |

Nice timing. The kids are already in bed and I'm sobering up Glad it wasn't 'first caller wins'. You'd have been screwed.
