At first I figured it was no big deal. But if the new base commander really did recently order that the volume be turned up and it is bothering the neighbors, then the Navy should be a good neighbor and return it to where it was. It's not like Everett is a Navy town. And most of those people have probably been there longer than the Navy.

Understood that people come and go. There are also a lot of old school neighborhoods above the Navy base. With a lot of long term residents. The base has only been there for about 15 years. Heck, I have lived in my community for longer than that.

We went through all of this when the BNSF agreed to reduce their own noise signature from the switch yard right across the street from the Navy base during certain hours of the night.

Believe me, I don't have much sympathy for people who move in next to airports, railroads, military bases, etc and then whine and complain about the noise that can reasonably be expected from such operations. But in this case the Navy is the one who moved in next to many of these people. And then apparently decided to turn their stereo up.

They play a recording of the "Morning Colors" bugle call each morning over a PA system. Allegedly, a new base commander recently decided that it needed to be played louder and broadcast in new directions.

Case in Point, the Tacoma Rifle and Revolver club:

The Club has been there since 1900 or so.  The houses...notsomuch.

Or how about Pacific Raceways in Kent? Otherwise known as S.I.R. or Seattle International Raceway.

Opened in 1960 out in the middle of BFE. No houses around, anywhere.

Currently, almost every year, those fuckheads that live next to the track go to court and try to get them shut down for the noise.

I hope the Judge lives for ever because every time it goes to court, the judge asks one question... "Did you know the track was there when you bought the property? Yes? Get the fuck outta my courtroom".

Anybody here live near there that can add more insight to this "allegation"?

If that's the case, then yeah, the Base Commander needs to understand that the Morning Colors are a Military tradition, and not one that he needs to impose on the folks living a reasonable distance off post. Simply turn the speakers inwards.

The only caveat to that is local noise laws...are there any? Is the Base violating them?

As my letter said, I live close enough to hear it and it is just fine. They did a big write up in the paper last week about it and then all these asshats started complaining. i am sure if it violates any ordinances the city would have been on it by now.....

There is a moron that bought a house up by Forest Park......he was informed that there was a police firing range nearby.................he bought anyway..then tried to have the range closed.

I'm betting all those whining about the Morning Colors, are not longtime residents.
