Everyone accounted for?
Target practice proves painful for Pasco man By Paula Horton, Herald staff writer A 28-year-old Pasco man who was shot in the head while target practicing on Sunday was likely hit by a ricochet from his own gun, according to the Benton County Sheriff's Office. The man, whose name was not released, apparently was target shooting by himself near Hover Park in east Benton County when he was hit in the temple, Capt. Steve Keane said. He was flown to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, where he was treated and released. Keane said it appears the man's AK-47 blew up because the man said he was hit at the same time his gun exploded. He could have been hit by a piece from the gun or a shot could have ricocheted off a rock and struck him. The victim was fortunate that some other people nearby heard the shot and his cries for help. Those people had driven by and waved to him before the shooting and happened to have stopped nearby because their car had broken down, Keane said. The man was target practicing on land owned by Kennewick General Hospital that many people use to ride ATVs and practice shooting. Keane said people frequently go out there, but it's "a very dangerous place to be out shooting." He recommends people go to a firing range for safety. http://www.tri-cityherald.com/901/story/395861.html ETA: title edit |

This is exatly why I don't go shooting alone. I wonder how he blowed up an AK? He must have had a Glock taped to it. Probably the usual suspects... squib, bad headspace... Might have nosedived a round and caused enough setback to overpressure it, but still been stupid enough to say 'what the heck', reload it and shoot it. Not that I've ever done that.
