just got a new barrel from CMMG.  But I cant knock out the damn pins on this one.  It mushroomed up pretty quickly.  So I grinded down the side with a dremel.  Still wont budge.  Bent my punches on it.

will probably send it back to CMMG and have them remove it for me.

Kent.

I didnt have any problems with my BM, or the used CMMG barrel I got not too long ago.

Had no problems with my GTS Operator barrels, and used a standard hammer swung at speed.  Of course, the GTS is considered a "premium" barrel so maybe the pins are easy to work on

Grind down both sides of the pin.

Tap from both sides.

If that does not work take a small drill bit and drill into the pin from one side until you have drilled enough of the pin away to smack it out.

With the risk of sounding like an asshole are you punching them out the right direction? They are tapered on most uppers and they will only move one way. I had someone bring me a upper not to long ago with the same "type" of problem. After looking at the mushroomed end I turned the upper over and punched the pins right out.

Next option would be a using some heat. Got a propane or mapp gas torch on your bench?

Yes, I'm confident they are being punched in the proper direction.  I didnt measure it with a caliper, but from eyeball, they were pretty obvious to me.  And not to mention, it's the same direction as my used CMMG barrel.

No torch.  Right now, I cant even tell where the pins are on the left side.  The finish is gone.  I'm just eyeballing where the pin should be.  A local shop is willing to try it out for $35 on Mon.

No, should I? I dont want to make what's left worse than it already is.

PS, what do i refinish the FSB with?  I'm looking at bare metal.

Right on...It should be pretty obvious which way they go if you "know" they are tapered. The guy who brought me his upper had a Model one upper that had straight pins in it before he boogered up the one I speak of. He assumed his new upper was the same. Would gladly help you out but I am a ways South as Coctailer said...

Good luck...

You toss the barrel into the freezer, and the different rate of contraction of the barrel, FSB, and FSB pins should make it easier to remove the pins.

Not to be a dick, but it's sutff like this that makes me laugh everytime somebody says 'Anybody can build or work on their own AR!".

I wish you the best of luck with your FSB and barrel, but you should have stopped a LOT sooner before you got to bare metal.

Thumbs up to Rainier Arms.  They saved the day.
