Did you guys run the Farnam drill as a test/qual at the end of class? Our class was kind of the guinea pigs in seeing what the times were from students at the end of the course. |
|
I'm hoping to take this class in September after I get my CCW. I have a small amount of shooting experience (probably about 1k total of handgun rounds fired. Do you think this would be alright for a relative beginner, or would I be overwhelmed going into this class? I have had a small amount of instruction from a Seattle PD friend... |

My suggestion if you are going to take this class, you dont need to be accurate or anything, just know how to properly handle your gun safely. If you can handle your gun safely, by that I mean handgun manipulation (racking the slide, locking it back, clearing it etc). If you can do that you are good to go for the class. I ran my Glock 19 in class, my first farnam drill run was 14~ or so. There were about 3 sigs, 3 glocks, and one Les Baer TRS in my class and all the guns ran find themselves, all the malfunctions I saw were shooter induced. |
Only 7 in the whole class? Is that average class size? |

Arctangent..I have read your response to what I said to that little twit, the strike wanter and a guy who just wants to fuck with my close friends.... I also read that you took some sort of class on how to kill people with your threaded Sig 220 .45 caliber pistola..Honestly, I hope you do...Nothing better for a prosecuting attorney to have internet braggings on line to convict a guy who just killed someone after taking a class after learning more about it. |
WTF?! |
|
What the hell Phil, are you condoning the training classes for civilians bragging about training to shooting people? Hey, I'm all for self defense, evreyone one here is...right? But bragging about going to classes on line discussing tactics and wepons just give the attorneys a slam dunk if somewone actually does try to defend is family or business... What I am saying, is that if you want to go that route, please just dont freakin brag about it online....I's only gives ammo to the enemy if there are any extenuating circumstances.... ArcT... do what you feel you need to do....I'm sure your pal from Lake Stevens will be right there to back you up with the strike muny he's gonna get from Local 751... |
By phrasing it as a class training to shoot people you're way out of your lane. The reality is that when a person who is involved in a defensive shooting has attended suitable courses and followed the teachings it's a benefit to them no a detriment. In some cases the instructors are available to testify as expert witnesses. A review of a class isn't bragging it's a review. |
|
Unless there are photographic issues to be argued I doubt I will be an expert witness. Training courses all cover different ground but just take a look at the syllabus for Massad Ayoobs LFI-1
Yep someone prosecuting a good shoot would have a field day with a graduate of that course. ![]() Nevermind that oftentimes when you look around you at a course there are LEOs scattered throughout, but hey they're just there to learn how to kill people like everyone else is right?

For bang for the buck also look at Firearms Academy of Seattle Thunder Ranch in OR shouldn't be overlooked |

Having taken a class (Insights provides you with a certificate) goes towards establishing responsibility of having a weapon (safety among others). Seems arct has deleted his posts so dunno what he said. In general anybody posting here asking for what barrel to use, what gun shoots best, accurate, etc. could be used against you. A review of a class is the least of my worries (gun rags do it all the time, and that goes to milliions of people). If you don't feel comfortable reading/writing about training reviews, just don't visit arfcom period. Just being here could be construed as wanting to find information on "bad things". |

And once again, the fudd and black rifle crowd ingloriously collide in an explosive mash of vitriol and misunderstanding. All parties involved are good guys, just with VERY different views on the proper use of firearms. Unfortunatly, this is AR15.COM. That means EBR's, Semi-auto pistols, training classes, and LOTS of ammo expended. This is not your local hunting club where most people only go shooting once a year to "verify" their bolt action rifles zero just before hunting season. Those who are not part of the EBR culture will simply not understand how we do things. The non EBR folks sill feel out of place and will make judgement calls about situations that they simply cannot grasp or understand. I believe that this thread has highlighted these differences and driven home this point. Unfortunatly when EBR and fudd collide, no good will come of it......

That's actually a subject I'd like to tear in to in many ways, if for nothing else than to further dissolve the grey lines holding the two groups separate. (the prejudice on both sides irritates the hell out of me most any time it's mentioned with any seriousness) But that's a thread for another day. Your excellent points aside, I honesty think there's a little more to the personality clashes displayed above in this thread. Whenever we get past it, it'll be none too soon. |
