I seem to have a problem with my AR.

Let me preface this by saying that this WAS Brandis rifle and as such I didnt have a lot to do with it but it is the only AR I own right now.

It is an Oly faux dissipator in A2 config. The rear sight has to be cranked all the way left to be on target at 100 yards. I am guessing the front sight base is off kilter. Is there a way to fix this with the taper pins that are currently in it or do I need new pins?

I want to put a flat top on it for an aimpoint or something similar for the upcoming training class but my BUIS wont work if the FSB is still off. This is unacceptable to me.

Any hints or tricks to unfucking this thing in time for the class? I dont have the tools for an AR handy at the moment but I can travel if someone has some clue how to fix it.

(gratuitous "take it to the EE portion") I could also use a flat top upper and CCO if someone has one they are contemplating getting rid of. If not I will be heading to the show tomorrow morning.

Should be able to unfuck it at LCR, before the class starts.

Remove and properly reinstall the barrel in the upper or use a BFH on the FSB to get the barrel to rotate.

My first AR (an OLY) was the same way. Took it down to their shop and he whacked it with a 4 pound soft face hammer (hit the FSB) and said try that. Took it to the range and it was dead in the middle after that. (BTW Skip did that) You have to pull the upper off the lower and put it in a AR clamshell fixture.

If you want to borrow an upper for the class, I can let you use one of mine. I don't have one for sale at the time. But if your just needing one that isn't fucked up for the class and are willing to drive to Vancouver....

Not sure quite where you are, but if its worth the drive....

Alright. Good luck with your upper.

Ive seen gunsmiths twist the barrel in the upper, even relieving the pin slot a little to get enough barrel rotation.

Requires tools.

Also I bet Grumpy will have the tools to fix it at LCR,

The last time that happened to me, it was a little play in the upper key slot.

I just held the barrel in the opposite direction while tightening the barrel nut.

+1 for my Oly CAR.  Took all of 2 minutes for the fix.  Damn nice people at Oly.

I have observed this exact technique in my kitchen.  Seems to work like a champ.

That's quotable right there.

we can put a fix on it at the LCR.

It's a case of the barrel not being aligned with the upper reciever. Probably has nothing to do with the front sight base.

If you make it, lets work on getting it squared away on Friday night.

As others have said, it's an easy enough fix.

I'll really miss having Dino there, and not just for his vise or the coffee.......

Another issue has come up. I picked up a KAC RAS and it will not fit over the buolky ass gas block on the Oly. Would there be any detriment to filing down the OD of the gas block if I dont get to close to the gas transferring portion of the block?

Grump could tell you better but I think you would be way better off getting the correct gas block.

Damn, I forgot all about that. Lemme know if ya want your money back
Ive got a couple of the dissapator uppers and one is the Oly style gas block with regualr handguards, the other is a ground down standard front sight with a Surefire railed forend. I'd suggest grinding it if ya need it done tomorrow, or replacing it with a lower profile gas block from local dealer if you have a couple days.

Getting a low-pro gas block will probably work best.

That too, can be done at LCR, but is more labor intensive and should be done on friday right after arrival and setup is complete.

No time for it on Saturday morning.
