What are the legalities of my dad shipping up a couple of my left behind .22 rifles from California??
They are mine so why would I need him to ship to an FFL, to register them again??

Dont quote me on this but I beleive you can ship guns to yourself. I am sure someone will come along that know a little better then I.

ETA: might be a little tricky trying to convince the shipper(fedex/ups).

A few years ago I was talking on the phone with my pops ( he lives in Ohio ) about the Marlin Golden 39A I used to shoot all the time as a kid. We got to shootin' the shit about all sorts of things and I forgot all about it.

About a week later upon getting home and unlocking the front door I see this 5 foot long box the USPS carrier had leaned up against the nook by the front door. You guessed it. The Marlin lever action I had shot about 30,000 rounds through when I was a kid.

It's sitting about 10 feet away from me in my office / den as I type this.

Long guns can ship via USPS, and having your parent ship THEIR stuff to THEMSELVES C/O your address , too avoid any hassle at the airport (2nd bag charge more then TSA). It'd run ya under $15 to send a longgun priority in the western US.   I dont believe it's an issue to have the label read the son's name as both the shipped and reciepient, however the parent doing the shipping might have to explain how the son left it behind while visiting due to the hassle at the airport, extra long box fee etc.

I shipped a bolt gun out of CA to myself right before I moved up.

No problems.
