| If an ak has a US reciever, it does not need compliant parts because it is not an imported rifle, correct? |

A receiver is just one US-made replacement part. It doesn't matter how many US parts you have on a rifle... you can have no more than 10 imported parts before 922 comes into play (Obviously, the parts in question must be the relevant 922 listed parts). If you take a US-made Colt AR15 and replace ten US made components with imported parts, the rifle would then be considered "imported". and thus be illegal if you have a removable magazine & pistol grip or barrel threads or bayonet lug, a folding/collapsing stock. If I were making up the rules it would as simple as you suggest... since the ATF says the receiver is the firearm, whether or not a receiver is imported should put the whole question to rest; not where the pistol grip or gas piston was made. ~Icarus |
| Because of the parts count rule guys are able to turn Mak90's into their original intended configuration with an imported receiver. You just need to swap out six parts. Fire control will get you three right away. Bunny knows all about it. Feel free to ask him if you like. |
Not worth the risk. If you ever have dumb luck or whatever and The ATF gets involved. They have toolmark specialists who can readily identify COMBLOCK Machine marks. Spend $20.00 on that piston, $15.00 on the grip.... Better than even a few years in Club Fed w/ Big Fred as your new wife. |
