Fellas Sig spent a few cold damp nights in the truck, no ive got some surface rust, could be worse, could sure be better, its on the slide, trigger and most buttons, i was thinking of doing the slide in the matte stainless duracoat, I know nothing about it but what ive seen on here, if done correctly, will this, in your opinion, give me a decent 2 tone look, the color i seek looks more like white in the duracoat pics ive seen on weapons, i have faith in the quality of the product, but im worried about the shade/look when finished, 2nd question, trigger and buttons, would the durocoat work well on them (with all the tiny fine grooves and all, or I was thinking of maybe getting them nickleled, chromed or something off beat, not lookingfor over the top gaudy, but unique is always nice, any help appreciated PS, gu is factory blued now |

So far, my favorite paint solution, has been to paint the object with Norrells moly resin, then paint with duracoat for the desired colors. Moly resin is a tough bake on finish that does a great job of bonding with the surface of the object. Moly resin requires baking at 350 derees for 30 minutes, but once it's on, it stays on. Duracoat gives you better color choices, but in the end, it's just paint and will chip much easier than moly resin. I do a lot of duracoat over bluing and parkerizing. It works well. |
I find that interesting, for myself it seems to be the other way around. The Norrells seems to scratch off of my AK receivers no problem even after they have been cleaned and bead blasted, but the Duracoat takes a little better beating. Norrells seems to work the best for me if it is painted over Park, or if im just trying to match up AR15 receivers. Plus the Duracoat gives you a way better high! |
| i have only used Duracoat on my XD and some AR magazines. both have held up pretty well. except the barrel of my XD, i clear coated that and if you have an XD, you will know what i mean, when i say the breech area of the barrel, or whatever it is called, takes some beating. |
