I voted yes...3 times. Just kidding. We need to use the ones we already have. Like Foss shooter. He's 18--that's a Murder One charge, as well as at least one or two firearms violations. Life in prison, or save some money would be better still.

This is what I like to call playing possum.

The anti-gunners are not rolling over. They want us to feel complacent. They want us to think they are not thinking about our rights. A nice article in the PI that our rights are safe is much smarter than crying about needing new gun laws.

This article makes me want to protest new gun laws in Olympia more than ever.

Incoming state Sen. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, said it's unlikely bills related to gun control will go far this legislative session.

"I think the core Democratic constituents are going to be pleased with a lot of stuff we do this session, but I don't think they'll be very pleased with what we do with gun control, which is not very likely to be much," he said.

"It would be easier to pass a gay marriage bill down here than it is to pass a gun control bill,"

The article quotes lobbyist Natalie Reber, Executive Director of Washington Ceasefire as saying...

"because it hasn't passed sensible gun laws to protect our children and families, such as mandatory background checks on all gun purchases.

"Our elected officials had the opportunity (last) session to pass common-sense gun legislation. Instead they once again allowed the gun lobby to undermine any possibility of passing legislation supported by voters that would help keep guns out of the hands of criminals, terrorists and other prohibited purchasers."

The irony here is the lobbyist Natalie Reber is also an appointed member of the King County Womens Advisory Board.  This board is involved with women who a victims of domestic violence.  Aparently she does not connect that if properly trained and armed these women may be able to defend themselves and avoid becoming the victim.

Even more ironic is that she used to be the Chair of Pro Choice Washington and involved with NARAL.  So apparently it is OK to kill helpless children in the womb via abortion, but once they pop out then there should be no guns to endanger them?  Also women should not have the "Choice" to go to a gun show and buy a firearm should they "choose" not to become a victim.

Perhaps a personal defense program for the victims of domestic violence would be a fresh way to connect the importance of self protection/survival and the rights outlined in the constitution.

When the PI puts up another poll they usually include a link to see past polls.  Lets see if this poll shows up or not.

Don't look, the expatmoms are inane.

expatmom has already been backed into a corner on another thread there by being forced to admit that her contention is that unless a gun is stored such a manner that it is 100% theft proof then it is not stored appropriately.

She ignored the responses that followed her agreeing to that as her position.

That being it's a given that nothing is 100% theft proof it's therefore impossible for guns to be stored properly and as in the gun control zealots world, such proper storage is required for one to keep guns no guns can be kept. That makes for a 100% ban on guns without actually banning them, all in the guise of "safe storage"

Islam is growing at a great pace in the Netherlands. I wonder how safe she is going to feel when one of their extremists takes over her country. Perhaps they can defend themselves with wooden shoes.

Expatmom2 is in the Netherlands and a great smack down was made on her.

expatmom2

Thanks expatmom for trying to inform these readers on the realites of the easy access to guns in the US. I live in the Netherlands, and grew up in Tacoma and attended Foss. What a huge difference I feel living in a densely populated city where nobody has a gun!

sieg

You feel "safe" do you, as opposed to living in Seattle? Well, Amsterdam saw 32 homicides in 2005, with around 741,000 people in the city itself. Seattle saw 25 in about 578,000 people.

Amsterdam per 100,000 -- 4.324
Seattle per 100,000-- 4.385

When you further consider that each year rates go up and down ever so slightly, etc, it's pretty hard to make the argument that your "gun-free" utopia has made you so much safer. But we get it....you're criticize America and our "gun culture" from your sophisiticated Euro neighborhood....we're SOOO impressed. *rolls eyes*

Assuming those numbers are correct that is going to leave a mark!

Here's a good quote from expatmom:

Malibu Dave
"the gun used in the Tacoma shooting was stolen from a home in 1999"
So some idiot gun owner shares responsibility for the shooting

This goes back to the coke head who killed the Seattle police officer in a stolen car. Does that mean the owner of the car that was stolen is partially at fault for the police officers death?   WTF?

That shit is extremely frustrating to read.

+1 That's what you get for letting some post molestation traumatized, drunken speed freak steal your car. If only you'd have stored it safely.
