Kennessaw in GA also has such ordnance, I was told, since the civil war. Not enforced, though.  Also, if we consider that Switzerland's citizens are conscript reservists of their army and keep military weapons in their houses this is not that new. Of course, the crackheads that keep saying "guns are dangerous" conveniently forget to mention that.
