I am 100% behind the Idea of Compulsory Military service for all high School Graduates. 2 years only, Option to re-up is there. While serving you will earn an associates Deg and learn a skill/trade/profession. After 2 years you can get out and go do whatever. Only Now you'll have learned a thing or two about Respect, hard Work, responsibility, duty, and country. I think it would really help solve most of our current social problems and would give kids today who know NOTHING about discipline, respect, or honor a fighting chance to really do something with their lives. No where else in the country have I seen this more clearly illustrated than here is Washington surprisingly. I've never met so many shiftless, low goal, families and teenagers... Oh and of course I'm pretty sure Washington is the birthplace of the Racist, Small world View Democrat... I'd never seen that until I got here... hink Besides, 60% of the time active duty is a a lot of fun. |

COOL, Here's your Tinfoil hat.... Now, does anyone know what he's carrying? Also don't forget folks, that the Media and the government WANTS TO KEEP YOU SCARED... They benefit from a scared quiet population. Things aren't nearly as bad as they seem, it's just that every tiny little event is now hyped like it's the end of the world or something new. And Yes, My tinfoil hat is right here thank you! |
|
It's either the gun Al Pachino had in heat, or a Sig 550 checking world.guns.ru it would appear to be a SIG 550 |
What am I gonna do about it? Why, what any good, decent Washingtonian would do....I'm gonna call Patty Murray and thank her for all the wonderful work she's doing! I just feel so much safer with tough, deep thinkers like her and Maria on watch. Ok, now that I've made myself throw up....be armed at all times, be vigilant, live in condition red at all times and pray for just enough global warming to put RodneyKingCounty 20 feet underwater!

Well lets start off with HELL NO!.. Last time I checked, this was still the United States of America... I'm very Pro-Military, I want a strong military, but not at the risk of letting every shitbag kid that has his slanted Anti-American views dirty up the integrity of the units, and the cheapening of the Military as a whole.
Before or after Basic/Boot camp and AIT/Skills training?... Two years is not enough any longer, my BCT ended up being 13 weeks all said and done, and my MEDIC school ended up being 14 weeks of training with a week before that for fill time. If you think I would have been "Mission Ready" at that point...Think again!. I agree with the Respect,Hard work, Responsibility,Duty, and Country part, but then throw in the AA degree training and requirements to become good at your new "military job"... It would be a huge waste of money-Time ( If your contract did not run out first). The only way it would be worth it to me is to up the time in service to 4 years active duty, and an additional 2 + in a Reserve/Guard type unit.
Good, Strong family values and a firm foundation, along with strong backing up in the educational system is where it starts...Uncle Sugar can't turn a a pile of dogshit into a chocolate cake.
I have been to many states, and it is pretty strong here, but honestly no different than California,Texas.Oklahoma or any of the other states I have lived...JMO.. |
|
Well I think it's a fine Idea, Obviously there would be changes needed to our current structure but it could work. Works like a champ in several other countries. Yes you can Polish a Turd I've witnessed it first hand. "Family Values?" Wha??? Take a look around, the Moral Majority Scumbags, and Theoretical "Family Values" haven't been working too well or what people call Values "Looky at my cool New Toys and Envy me" or maybe it's "I'm the most important person out here, I AM ENTITLED?" Oh I know, how about the current sickness where we celebrate mediocrity, "Everyone IS A WINNER" theres a great way to make certain NOBODY WINS... Are these the Values we're looking for? Far as I can tell, the American Family is pretty much failing, many households have simply lost the plot. Letting Daycare raise Children they don't recognize, Medicating the creativity right out of our youth, Time outs and over indulgence as apposed to Yard work and a solid whoopin once in awhile. I haven't been here long, I don't want to start too much shit, where feelings get hurt or I offend everyone. I wanna hang out, go shoot some pumpkins, and hang out with a bunch of fellow gun owners. If we can go back and forth without generating resentment and hostility, right on! We'll argue religion and Politics next. But if there is going to be real conflict I'd rather not. I've been here a year and friends have proven hard to come by... I don't feel the need nor do I have the desire to piss off anyone. Rev |
I thought Gill Cowardkowski was supposed to protect us!
|
Mostly I was taking the Israeli model as an example... I would love to see the 4 and 2 like you mentioned. Hell I spent 14 weeks at Lackland, another 5 months at Ft. Mead, and then another 6 weeks or so at STRATCOM just to get started... SO YEAH I hear ya with the 2 year plan being week but I just couldn't see America going for 4 years. How about we just add a couple of years to High School for "Life Training"... You teach kids common courtesy, How to manage a bank account, how NOT to live in Debt, How to create a resume', etc... Basic Finishing school would be good as well, teach em' some manners. |
|
Two years, after training is complete, at the minimum. It should be longer, depending on the quality of the school. An associate's degree takes two years of full time school, so handing them out at the end of compulsory service won't work. They'll have to serve full time and complete school in their spare time for the people to get their investment's worth. While compulsary service is a good idea, I don't think it should necessarily military. Those jobs shouldn't pay as well as the military would be paid, nor should the rewards for them include a free education. Not everybody needs a college degree, when we have to hire illegal immigrants to get the grunt work done. The most important battles we have to fight are right here at home. Too many people try to disassociate themselves from our society, while thinking that we owe them a living for the inconvenience we cause them with our civilization. People need to learn that if they don't contribute, they won't benefit. |
OH I love that Gag.... Did the paper clips and change in the drawer get individually wrapped as well? I dunno who did this one but they did a Damn fine job... |
Oh I'm sure she is a she, just not anything I would be interested in. |
uh huh, i've heard about you..... |
I guess we'll have to wait for the "organized" Most Army Guard units not prepared for combat |
The snipet says that they won't be ready for combat upon returning home AFTER deploying to Iraq or Afghanistan, because there isn't money to complete the personnel training and equipment repairs and replacement. Wow, units aren't combat ready without refitting after a combat deployment. I'm shocked, just shocked at that. ![]() BTW- <tag> |
Sure....they leave their tools in Iraq and we have to pickup the tab for new gear when they get home. Most of that stuff will be left there, I from what I've seen in Snohomish, the stuff coming back is junk. |
And that is just fine by me, Most of the stuff over there is getting used to its fullest. I dont want my soldiers to have to fight the next battle with the used up gear of the last battle. |
I guess to try and put this thread back on track.. I have a roll in any terror attack that goes on in this region. I train with the Fire Dept., do my required FEMA training for work, and I take my personal and my family's safety into my own hands. We have what we need to bug in or bug out. We keep our skills up for all sorts of emergencies... Your safety is not only what you can do with a gun...It is nothing but a tool. |

The Navy already tried a program like that, more then once I might add. It was a failure. More than once. The services can't afford those two year wonders anymore. A good percentage of them were fucked over because they were never going to get to do anything once they arrived at their duty station/unit other than fill the shitty job slots. Most entered as enlisted general detail (Gendet). Almost all ended up cleaning shitters or cooking food, and when one rotation was done they were sent to do another. Most never made it to any type of advanced training, most were not offered schools or training they wanted (or needed). After 9 months of being shit on most developed attitudes, and for the most part there was noting you could do about it because it cost more to out process them and if you did out process them you ended up having to take a trained, qualified and seasoned airman from one of the various shops and send them in to fill in the shitty job slot. I would much rather have someone who wanted to be there and who knew (for the most part) what they wanted out of the service. Finally, they still would have a total of an 8 year obligation to fullfill. |
Yeah I wasn't sure what it was, so I was staying quiet... I think it's guy in bra and Panties... Hell it is Europe... |
Is it just me, or is that rifle missing the bolt and carrier? |
What difference does the reasoning make? Is the reasoning supposed to make us feel better that they are not combat ready and able to effectively deal with a major event on the home front? |
Leaving the context in which the statement Most Army Guard units not prepared for combat was made is a tactic worthy of the most sensasionalist mainstream media outlet. The reasoning is important because some things are easier to fix than others. A unit being rated C-4 unfit because of casualties is far more difficult to get back to a C-1 or C-2 rating then one that is a C-3,not fully ready for combat, because it's missing some HMMVs. In the late 90s both the 10th Mountain and the 1st Infantry were for a time rated combat unready, because they had too many elemwnts deployed to the Balkans. An active duty unit being rated unfit sounds horrible until the readily correctable reason why is learned. Do you really think that it's reasonable to expect a unit to be combat ready immediately upon returning from a combat tour? |
Do you really think that it's reasonable that a full 2/3s of National Guard units have been deemed unready for combat? Did they all just return yesterday?
|
According to your cite they won't be ready for combat upon returning home AFTER deploying to Iraq or Afghanistan. From other articles A key element of the problem is that Army units returning from the war have either left tanks, trucks or other equipment behind or are bringing them home damaged I think it's reasonable to expect that units returning from a combat tour to not be immediately ready to deploy on another. I think it's reasonable to allow time for them to refit and become combat ready. I think that if someone wanted to make a really big deal out of this issue they would show that these units have been unready for combat for an abnormally long period of time or are in a condition far worse than one would expect a unit having returned from combat to be in. How much time do you think is reasonable to return to a C-1 or C-2 (a unit has the resources and training to perform its wartime mission), rating after returning from a combat tour? Have these units exceeded that timeline? |

A Swedish I know once said (laughing) that he did not understand why the US had all this hype about guns and being famous for having a "gun culture". He said the number of guns per capita in Sweden (and other European countries) is much higher than in the US. And it is true that in Switzerland people keep (evil) military assault weapons at home as part of the national militia and I do not know about crime rate rampant there. |
![]() Where was that said? Really, find it and quote it please. Some people do like to try and do more than just bite and swallow hook line and sinker at sensational headlines. There's also nothing in your link or in articles relating to it that says ANYTHING about major terrorist attacks and the ability or lack of to handle them, you seem to be jumping to conclusions. |
It's been reported many times that Canada has a higher per capita rate of gun ownership than the US as well. |
Like I said, Phil, all is well, all is well. No need to worry, the organized militia is obviously well prepared to defend you. Sweet dreams. |

I will utilise the rights that the government has not yet taken from me. one in the tube, 12 in the mag. with 4 mags in reserve. that should help get me to my rifle. |

I don't see the Seattle shooting as "terrorism." It was a case of a lone gunman who went crazy. Terrorism is the deliberate targeting of civilians (creating "terror") so that: 1. said civilians will call/write their representatives telling them to comply with the terrorists' demands; (The shooter had no demands, he was "just mad at Israel.") 2. by not getting caught, the terrorists demonstrate the impotence of the State, creating the possibility of a shift in the People's loyalties. (The shooter was convinced to surrender by one of his victims.) Here's the threat from incorrectly describing criminality as "terrorism": We have some strong anti-terror/anti-Liberty laws on the books. If we start describing "criminal activity" as "terror", then our beloved gov't will decide to use the anti-terror laws in investigating, prosecuting, and punishing criminal cases. Our civil liberties will be flushed down the toilet. |
While I totally agree with you that it is not the traditional form of terrorism it still meets the modern definition and is being used to increase the powers of the state and the tyranny that goes with it. He attacked a soft target and created a terroristic responce, the government response was to place police officers at every jewish org from Washington to southern California. As the state increases it's powers and the abuse there-of it will lead to more violence. |
I agree, but I also look at it like this... What is the difference if this guy would have went in with a AK Ammo vest on full of C-4 and said " Im mad at Israel! " and blew himself up, only killing one female and wounding 4 or 5 others?... It would be a " Terror Bombing " on the news instead of a "lone Nutcase Gunman". |
|
So the Supreme leader of Iran calls on all Muslims around the world to wage jihad against the US, Britian and Israel. Soon after, A muslim in Seattle grabs a pistol, walks into the Jewish center and starts shooting. Jewish, British and American targets are attacked in Europe, Asia and South America. Who the hell knows what's happening in the Middle East and Africa? So did this lone gunman attack the other targets too, or were there other muslims involved? Can I pull your head out of the sand now, or would that be too scary for you? |
| I posted a link to article wherein it was claimed the 2/3 of Nationa Guard units are not prepared for combat, which you apparently took issue with. Therefore, it would seem only logical that you disagreed with my assessment and that it was not something to be concerned about. It's okay, Phil, I am sure they will be there when you need them most to protect you and all the other good little Seattlites. Just like they were there for the good people of New Orleans. |
That's a very nice job of projecting and assuming there Boomer. How about reading what I actually wrote without putting your own spin on it? I won't be so bold as to suggest that since you seem to be so concerned about the status of these guard units and their ability or lack of it to protect you that you'll be happy to pony up your share of the up to $21 Billion to correct the equipment shortages that the units will face on their return home after deploying to Iraq or Afghanistan. You aren't suggesting that these units are to be left under equipped are you? BTW- If you want to practice logic; the logical conclusion from your perception that I lack any concern about their status would be that I'm not all twisted up about the ability others have or do not have to protect me. |
