| Hey guys, sayin hi from the other side of the country....was wondering if any of you from oa2 were here and having problems trying to access that site? Thanks a lot and have a great day! |
Why? 10 to 1 if you buy from any vendor at the WA funcshows their AR15's are made with Oly parts or full of Oly parts or ARE Oly's with a different name on them. ![]() |
Been thinking the same thing. Hard to beat the price. My first AR was an Oly PCR-00 (hence the name). It has functioned perfectly and I've never had a problem with it. |
I'm thinking three PP and some collapsible stocks and each of my kids has an AR15. Throw on an acog and they're good to go. |
Next time I at your house please show me that Oly PCR-00 |
| Oly's ok. Probability of NFG parts is about the same or better than most. BTW, the worst out of the box AR's I've ever dealt with were Colts. How their QC could let three rifles go out on the same order with dysfunctional carriers, I can only imagine. Similar problems with their handguns has put Colt on my do-not-buy list. Oly was one of our/their own worst enemies around the 94 ban. Hopefully, they have a better, more mature staff these days. |
Guess they only test the occasional barrel ![]() Would have no problem using Oly parts, except bolt carriers, bolts, and barrels.... I like chrome lining, tested bolts, and carriers that have better final machining.. |
Some gorilla glue and that'll buff right out. |
|
Oly is in the parts business as well as the gun business. They buy and sell parts as needed. When some of their CNC equipment broke down, they shipped rifles with LMT bolts and carriers. If they can get Bushmaster parts at a good price, they'll buy them and use them. There are east coast and west coast sources of milspec quality steel through stocking distributors. There is an American manufacturer and a Canadian manufacturer. Both sources are mil-spec approved suppliers. Manufacturers use what is available to them. Commercial standards are looser than mil-spec. Where every bolt and barrel on a mil-spec rifle is MP and pressure tested, per the military contract, commercial manufacturers might test every tenth part, as part of their own internal QC. I avoid Colt products from commercial sources because I've heard that Colt sells their QC rejects to the commercial market, rather than scrap them, as they should, the bastards. When you buy parts from companies like Fulton, Bushmaster or RRA, you get commercial quality parts that could have been made by any of the parts manufacturers. |
Word of mouth from a former Colt QC employee. That's good enough to keep me away from them. It won't stop anybody who wants the Colt logo on their rifles. I'll change my post to "I've heard that" |
|
Kind of sounds like BS to me. Guess as long as your comfortable with and have faith in whatever brand you've got, that's all that matters. None of my Colts have ever let me down. But I have been thinking about picking up an SNS lower and using Oly parts in it (although if I was go to by word of mouth around arfcom, I should be quite leary of Oly |
I'm thinking about doing the same. |
If you pick up a SNS complete lower it will already have Oly parts in it.
|
| If anyone is interested in the original intent of the thread, Tom Spithaler at OlyArms told me that a virus took out the servers at OA2.org, and the website crew is in the process of peeling as much data as they can retrieve from the hard drives. As y'all probably are aware, this is a time-consuming procedure, so the site is pretty much down until they're done. It'll be up again when they git'er done. |
Bunny, you get my crap. I don't know that other guy. This might take a while, because I barely have three hours a day to myself. Gimme an IM. |
![]() To be fair that bolt saw over 10k before it snapped.
|
Hi, I'm DP, now you know me, I asked first, and I only have 1 I repeat 1 ar... Bunny don't don't need your junk I do! |
Thank you |
I know what you mean. By all means, stay away from Oly if you don't like it. I know that my efforts, recently, to get LE Colts have usually met with resistance from the dealers, themselves. I'm not somebody enough to get one. It started in 1974, the first time I tried to by a Colt AR-15, after I got back from Vietnam. They wanted $500.00. Dealer wouldn't let me touch it until I bought it. I wasn't looking for a collectable and unfortunately, I lack the humility to grovel, after laying out the money, sight unseen. I'm still like that. That led me to seek out another brand of rifle. I started with an Oly kit, since they were local, and learned how to make it work. After that, I just don't give a damn about the Logo. I have three Olys that haven't given me any trouble, after I added my own value to them. Coating the upper receivers, polishing the chambers, a few other tune ups. I found Olys to be a little rough around the edges, rather than junk. Other than that, I have CMT, LMT, some Colt parts, Oly parts, Bushmaster parts and some aftermarket stuff. |
Bunny, When you get his junk can I look through it for my build? |
so this is what roadkill feels like... |
