am turning 18 in January so I started looking at the AR I wanted to buy. It had a bayonet lug, 6 position collapsible stock and obviously it can hold hi cap mags. Can I buy it or do I have to wait till I’m 21 because the ATF calls it an “assault weapon” I figured I would just get a stubby stock with no bayonet lug on it if I had to. I wanted A RRA but I can not find a RRA without the bayonett lug. Do they have one without it. |
+1 The Federal law (AWB) calling folding stocks, bayonet lugs, etc Assault Weapons is dead. Under Federal law, a rifle is a rifle is a rifle. Some states have their own AWB. Your state doesnt appear to still have an Assault weapons ban in place. According to the NRA website- VA state laws, you can indeed own a rifle at 18 (you cant be an alien, criminal, etc.), and there doesnt appear to be any AWB language. I think you are good to go! ![]() |
haha! My wife will confirm that. Take that every way you can. haha And 1gun, I've geen WAY! out of the loop for sure. Been busy learnin a new trade so to speak. I looked at my AR in the safe the other day. That's right, THE AR, as in I only own one. Yes, I'm a freak. I don't smoke, and don't drink coffee, yet I was in the Navy and am now a cop. And I belong to AR15.com and the WAC but still only own one AR and can count my firearms on two hands. (barely) |
A guy that was in the Military that did not smoke or drink Coffee?... ![]() |
