Evergreen Freedom Foundation A Non-Profit Public Policy Organization PO Box 552, Olympia, WA 98507 (360) 956-3482, www.effwa.org --------------------------- "...Because Freedom Matters" Press Release July 8, 2005 Contact: Booker Stallworth, Communications Director (360) 956-3482 State spending $961 per second; $83 million per day EFF launches Spend-O-Meter to track 2005-07 state spending OLYMPIA—The Evergreen Freedom Foundation (EFF) today launched a website featuring a “Spend-O-Meter” that documents the state’s per second spending since the 2005-07 biennium began on July 1. Visitors to EFF’s Spend-O-Meter website will be able to watch state spending increase at a dizzying $961 per second, based on the state’s planned expenditures of nearly $61 billion (all funds including capital and transportation budgets). “The fiscally frugal and those prone to motion sickness should proceed with caution before viewing how quickly the state is spending our tax dollars,” warned Jason Mercier, budget analyst for EFF. Also featured on EFF’s Spend-O-Meter website are breakdowns of Washington’s per second general fund expenditures and forecasted revenue. The state’s general fund expenditures are projected to exceed forecasted revenue by nearly $568 million. This means the state is engaging in nearly $778,000 of deficit spending per day. When looking at only the state’s general fund, Washington is spending $411 per second or approximately $36 million per day. Coincidentally, yesterday, July 7, was Washington’s Cost of Government Day (COGD). COGD marks the date the average citizen has earned enough to pay the cost of national, state and local government taxes and regulations. It is calculated each year by the D.C.- based Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). This means that Washingtonians were forced to toil for nearly 188 days to pay for the tax and regulatory burden of government. The national COGD was fittingly reached on July 4th. Washington scored a COGD ranking of 43rd. Idaho scored 10th (June 24), Oregon came in at 20th (June 28) and California ranked 42nd (July 7). First place went to Alaska (June 16), and last place to Connecticut (July 23). Unfortunately, Washington also ranks among the bottom states in economic freedom, according to a report released last week by the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) and the Fraser Institute of Canada. Economic Freedom of North America: 2005 Annual Report ranks the 50 U.S. states and 10 Canadian provinces according to their degree of economic freedom. The rankings are based on three principal factors: size of tax burden, size of government in relation to the economy, and flexibility of the labor market. Measured by the activities of state and local government, Washington ranked 40th in terms of economic freedom (tied with Oregon). California faired even worse coming in at 44th. Idaho scored tops in the Northwest at 35th. Delaware ranked 1st in economic freedom while Quebec came in last at 60th. “Whether it’s Washington’s poor governmental burden rankings or its nearly $1,000 per second spending appetite, the state must do more to prioritize spending and pursue budget accountability,” said Mercier. Becuase the idiot son of an asshole nominates the director of the federal reserve and sets spending policy, nations are controlled through policy. The POTUS first proposes the budget and then signs it into law after congress passes it, he does indeed have everything to do with inflation and higher taxes.

There ya go....Simplistic "Answers" from a simple mind. Liberals only open their mouths to switch feet. |
Reagan cut taxes and still increased military spending leading to the fall of the Soviet Union, yet Bush raises taxes and cuts bases and other military spending, they work very hard at sealing the borders of Iraq to slow the insurgency but Bush calls volunteers that slow illegal imigration vigilantee's. |
If there were unlimited space for my sigline, this would be the winner to beat. |
1) We cant outspend the chinese, cuz too many Americans are stuffing containers full of cash to send to them. 2) You cant cut .mil spending from a nonexistant level (Clinton). I will bet witht he war money, we are at 10X the Clinton levels. 3) Like it or not, illegals are doing jobs you and I wont do. Those jobs are so widespead and would have a major impact on our economy should their disposable workers not be at work tommmorrow. Neither political party wants immigration even slowed. |
They're doing jobs alot of us DID do when it payed better, this idea that Americans won't do the work is nonsense. Simply because a legal documented citizen of this country won't work for slave wages doesn't mean he wouldn't do the work if the pay were decent, it sure as hell doesn't justify letting illegals in just to save a few bucks for business. By the way, I thought this thread was about Washington state budget? |
It is about Washington state and what is destroying it, it is just that the state has a poweful tool in article one section ten to over-ride the insane and destructive policies of the tyrant/POTUS . If you do not understand coin credit and circulation and o not FIGHT to keep it honest then dishonest people will take everything you have from you. It is only possible to monetize increased production, any more than that is inflation and steals money from your pockets. I have watched many Washington state farmers that inherited operating farms go so deep in debt that they are forced to go bankrupt. Civilisation and modernity comes from productive agriculture, you wipe out the farm and you destroy the city, in the not too distant future seattlites will be eating one another alive and it is their own fault, the blood is on their heads. |
Ten years ago I had a job that paid $30hr in the stucco field. That same job today you would be lucky to get $15 an hr because of the Mexicans that have taken over. Get this I have worked with a few and they get more work done per hr then 90% of the whites I have worked with. A lot of whites are just Fooking slow workers. Union scale is $35hr for (Stucco) Lathers & Plasters. But if I were to work for a union shop I'd be lucky to work 3-4 months out of the year. I don't know what the answer is but I sure wish I did not have to compete with the Mexicans wages

+1 There are many jobs, especially those related to the agricultural and service fields that Americans will not do. When's the last time you saw any American picking crops in a field? We have created generations of American who are sucking the tit of America dry with Welfare and other entitlement programs. The think manual labor or field work is beneath them, but have no shame when it comes to picking up a wefare check or food stamps. Blame it on ignorance or lack of education, but it pisses me off to see some lard-assed 20 year old woman with her 3 kids living in her subsidized apartment. getting food stamps and free medical and knowing she'll probably never work a day in her life. Niether our government, nor the Mexican goverment will ever make a meaningful attempt to stop illegal immigration. The vast majority of the illegals coming into the states are small villages, where they cannot seek a higher education or have a chance to get a good job. Americans need these immigrants to perform the jobs Americans won't. Mexico want's them out of the country for two reasons. #1, they are the largest contributor to the mexican economy with the money the send home. #2. These are the guys who would fight in any Mexican Revolution.
As stated before, they are doing the work Americans won't do. But, have you checked to see who is building your house? There are illegal alien contractors making good wages. In CA you can hardly find any contruction trade that doesn't have illegals. See who's doing the drywall and installing your tile. Auto repair and body work is much the same. This is related to the budget, as we pay enormous amounts of taxes for illegals in the form of health care, subsidized housing and other costs. And now the state has declared an emergency to raise taxes. These people just don't get it. |
BS, we did those jobs all through the 60's just fine without illegal labor, in fact quality of life and standard of living was higher then. |
As a kid in SoCal I saw lots of Mexicans working the cabbage fields and orange groves. To me it was normal, My dad is a General Contractor and does residential construction, I never saw to many Mexicans on the work crews.. As I got older There became more and more Mexican short nailing on Construction sites and less Mexicans in the fields as machines had started to replace them. I ended up moving here when the parents split, and picked Strawberrys and respberrys along with bucking hay during the summer. I dont remmember working with any mexicans, but tons of school kids that needed summer jobs. The Mexicans worked the Apples on the east side of the state because when Apples came into season the School kids were in School. There used to be a time where kids got out of School to get the crops in, but now You are told by the School system that if you farm you may as well be white trash, Be a good little student and goto college to learn European fuck-fuck, and leave your backbone at home!. The American farmer is not going down because Americans wont do those jobs, He is going down because the Educational system helping to keep family off the farms. |

I just saw an ad on TV, showing a cherry orchard owner begging for a "H2A" program to approved here. I'm not sure what that is, but the commercial said it would allow illegal aliens to work in this state if "no legal work force was available." Well, there is plenty of legal work force available, they would just have to PAY THEM MORE! But they can conveniently say that there is no work force because they won't work for $2 a day (or whatever they pay illegals to harvest crops.) I may be wrong, but I believe that agriculture jobs are exempt from the state minimum wage requirements. The biggest problem as I see it is "entitlement." People thinks they are entitled to $100k a year job that takes 20 hours a week and has 2 months of vacation. They think they are entitled to a big house with a small mortgage with next to no interest rate. But they also think they are entitled to extremely cheap groceries, staples, clothing, shoes, cars, you name it. So while they want the $100k a year job, they don't want to pay more than $1 for anything. Think of how popular 99¢ stores are. So we bitch about illegals picking the crops, and then we bitch when we buy the cherries and they are $3 a pound instead of 99¢. So the "consumer" is an integral part of the problem. The same goes for all the shit we buy from China and overseas. Americans don't want to work hard anymore, they just want to get paid a lot of money for what they do. They are generally lazy and have no pride in their workmanship. Sure, there are plenty of exceptions to that rule, but it still applies. So when you go and try to "buy American" you usually get an expensive hunk of shit. At least with the imported stuff, you get an inexpensive hunk of shit. The sad thing is we are so far down this road, there is no hope of turning back. Nobody is willing to spend more for things that have been really cheap in the past. I heard years ago that the US economy is becoming a "service" economy. In other words, we don't make shit, we just import it all, and the jobs are created by selling the imported stuff to each other. That is why the gap between the richest Americans and the poorest is widening. You either own the business selling the imported stuff, or are you ringing up the customers at minimum wage. There are relatively few in the middle actually making anything. |
When I and most of my family did it, my wife and her family also did it, I'm only 36 and a white American.
They'll stop it when we stand up and demand they do, they work for us and as long as we make excuses for them then they have no reason to do anything. By regurgitating this rediculous idea that "Americans won't do the work", or that we "need" illegal aliens to do it you give the government the excuse they need to do nothing.
Why should they "get it" they have people more than willing to keep making excuses for them. Americans can, will, and have done the work and we got paid a decent wage for it. You say there are illegal contractors making "good" wages" no they aren't, they under cut American contractors and wind up doing the job for less than Americans were making 10 or 20 years ago, if the jobs paid a decent wage (which they would have to if there weren't a steady supply of illegals) then Americans would be filling those positions. |
Don't know where you picked fruit, but with 30+ years of family in the business I can state that 95% or more of the field workers in the Imperial Valley, San Joaquin Valley and Wash St. are not American. My uncle runs an internationally known plant research facilty with large fields in Modesto and cannot find Americans willing to work for him.
Quoted: They'll stop it when we stand up and demand they do, they work for us and as long as we make excuses for them then they have no reason to do anything. By regurgitating this rediculous idea that "Americans won't do the work", or that we "need" illegal aliens to do it you give the government the excuse they need to do nothing. "Americans won't do the work" is not a ridiculous idea. It Is fact!! Growers are begging for help with the berry picking in Whatcom Co. Who is doing it? Not Americans!! Nor do I see anybody giving up their Welfare or Unemployment to get out in the fields and work. Face it, the fact is: Unemployed Americans would rather collect Welfare and other government benefits (easy) than accept what they consider to be a menial, low-paying job (hard). As stated before, they are doing the work Americans won't do. But, have you checked to see who is building your house? There are illegal alien contractors making good wages. As RS_ Coyote stated, Union Scale is for stucco work is $35.00 an hour. Who is a contarctor going to hire? The union guy or the non-American that charges $15.00 an hour an does just as good a job? I have a borther-in -law who wanted to charge me $1200.00 to install 3 rooms of tile in my old house. I told him I thought the job was worth $800.00. he got pissed and asked me if I thought he was one of the Mexicans I worked with on the border. I stated no, they only wanted $500.00 to do the job. You can close the borders and kick the illegals out, but your cantaloupes and other fruits and veggies will rot in the fields beacuase you won't be able to get any Americans to spend 10-12hrs a day in 110 degrees to pick em for minimum wage. |

No, it's not fact. I worked feilds in California and eastern Washington, my wife is from a little town just south of portland. I did the work, many others around me did the work, therefore, since I, my wife, and our families are Americans I can say that Americans will, and can do the work. You're claiming we won't do the work, I'm saying we will if the price is right, minimum wage isn't the right price. You're correct that Americans for the most part won't work for piss poor wages, I don't see where that makes it ok to break the law and expect the rest of America to subsidize your unwillingness to pay what it costs to get the job done. You want welfare people to go get a job? end benefits for people that aren't (for some medical reason) prevented from working. I'm from a poor family, I spent my early years in public housing surrounded by welfare abusers but My family and I chose to work our way out. |
Huh? You wont build houses? Work in factories? Work on a farm? In resturaunts? |
Like Skeeterh said, I grew up in western Oregon. I picked strawberries, blueberries, polebeans, broccoli and picked up filberts (hazelnuts) and walnuts. My brothers worked the irrigation lines and my mom worked in the local cannery and trained marrionberry canes. This was a normal summer for a lot of the families in that area. I started working in the fields, with my mom and brothers, when I was 6. So did a lot of the kids I went to school with. It was a normal summer job for most of the kids of the community. It taught good work ethics and the value of a dollar. Less than half of the workers were migrant workers. Then the government (I don't remember if it was state or federal, I was a kid) passed a child labor law banning kids under 12 from working in the fields. All of a sudden, a good sized chunk of the workers were banned. That also meant that the older sibblings of the under 12 kids had to stay home to babysit if Mom had a full time job, taking away even more of the workers. If Mom worked in the fields, she had to stay home to take care of her kids because she couldn't even have them in the fields with her, taking away even more of the American workers. I don't know what the % of Americans vs. illegals is now, but before the passing of the law banning kids under 12 from the fields, a lot of Americans did do the work! We didn't refuse the work, our own government screwed us. And now they want to screw us again.
It's true, an American man, trying to support his family, won't work in the fields for minimum wage because he can't support his family on minimum wage. An American mom won't work in the fields for minimum wage because minimum wage wouldn't pay for the childcare she'd need since she can't take her kids to the fields with her.
No, the fruit and veggies wouldn't rot in the fields if the fields were opened back up to school kids. Kids would be happy working for minimum wage and they would learn good work ethics and maybe stop expecting everything to just be handed to them. It would be good for the kids of America to be allowed back in the fields instead of being couch potatos. |
| The solution is as simple as it is obvious. Do not pay unemployment benefits during the harvest, unless you have origional, verifiable, written documentation from a qualified doctor that you are unfit for manual labor. Make sure that people have to apply for the waiver in person. |
