Weather permitting ( as in no torrential downpours ) I should be able to shoot awhile w/ you guys tomorrow. I am kinda familiar w/ GF's , but am uncertain the location of your 'pit' Your space shuttle satellite map was of little help. Gathering time / place in town before heading up ? Or if someone thats going e-mails my their cell # would be cool. Thanks in advance Strk Edit: It looks like it's on Mt Loop hwy ?? So if I don't hear from anyone, I'll just look for a few rigs parked and follow the gun shots. |
I believe that DaBunny plans to be at the McChevron at 11am to lead the group to the location. If all goes well I'll be at the site a little bit earlier than that. Red Ford Ranger with a No McUzi sign in the rear window. I'm uglier than -UHLEK-

I have all my stuff packed up and sitting by the door. As I am laying in bed it occurs to me that I was told we had to park alongside the road, so I'm assuming no driving into the pit. I was planning on bringing 4 AR's, 1 Garand, a couple pistols, 3 ammo cans, 3 steel targets cut out of 3/4 roadplate, 2 boxes of pigeons and a camera bag. Way too much stuff to be humping all at once. How long of a hike is it into the pit? Should I just bring one rifle? |
The pit has a big gate that you can only get around via bike/walk. There are two places to park. One is at the gate, maybe 3 full-size rigs; the other is just past the main entrance, on the left side of the road (N side). Enough parking for 5-6 Full sized rigs if we do it right. The hike to the pit is about 10m from the road. You should have no problems bringing anything you want to shoot short of a tank. -U- |

I am sicker than a dog thanks to an inconsiderate sister-in-law who just HAD to bring her sick kid to our house on Thursday. No fun in Granite Falls for me this Sunday. Yes, I have CavVets gyno's number. ![]() As far as humping stuff into the pit get yourself a tactical wheelbarrow. ![]() It's not that big of a deal to make two trips with your gear. I do it all the time. |
Lost an 8 day vacation to some sneezing wench on an airplane once, now I do not hesitate to open my piehole when it comes to making me sick and fucking me up, "Get the fuck away from me now", and I really dont care who what when where it is. I got it straight from the book "How to win friends and influence others". |
| It's 9:33 here in Granite Falls, sunny & freakin cold. Looks like a great day, dress warm. But I guess most of you are gone all ready huh ? That's ok, I still have a full pot of Italian (not french) roast that just got done brewing & will be enjoying it while puttering around here getting ready over the next hour or so. Hope ya all make it ! |

Next time we have a large turnout like today's, we should have a point where we stop for formal introductions so we know who everyone is. I've seen a few of the faces a couple of times, but still don't have the screen-names nailed down yet, so maybe when the weather is warmer and we do this again, we can take a minute and get to know who our fellow ARFCOM shooters are. There were two guys there, not from our group, that were watching us set up, and one of them commented on the fact that we had a pre-shoot safety discussion. They seemed favorably impressed with the way we conducted ourselves. Good job on that one, Cav Vet. I thought this was an outstanding shoot today, with the number of people that showed up (sorry you got the bug KA3B ) and some really nice equipment. My best friend, Prospector, and his Sons showed up at The Pit for the first time and had a blast. One of the boys asked about how often we gather there for this, so they're ready to make a repeat appearance. Glad to be associated with y'all. |

CavVet Range Leader I'd say, damn good at the ole bump fire too. Was fun today, learned I need to do some serious inspection of my AR's to get em right. Missing or broken spring on the slide lock, used some tape to hold it open and got one decent bump out of it! My timberwolf was a real disapointment today, need to totally pull it down on the bench and determine the firing pin problem. 44mag that dented the primer but no kaboom. Dammit. Railgun.... ![]() EDIT: Found that the trigger spring was out of it's detent slot which made for a weak hammmer drop. Took it out back and fired it just fine. Jeebus I can't believe I put it together like that. Now onto the AR's to find out what to do about the bolt or spring problem. Also Kooter was bumpin like a mad scientist out there! Too Cool! |
