A couple of old high school friends and I are kicking around the idea of getting back together for a camping trip the weekend before Christmas. We all live in Southwest PA and we're eyeballing camping spots near Ohio Pyle.
Does anyone have any insight on good camping areas with modest accomodations for 4-5 guys? We are looking for a cabin because we would like a warm place to crash, and enjoy sipping on some long necks around a fire. During the day we would like to hike and do some shooting. Some of us have 'grown' since high school so hiking would probably be limited to 3-5 miles. We're not limiting ourselves to just PA, and would be more than willing to consider locations in WV and OH as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated! |
| I have never stayed here, but know others who have. Cabins are nice and its near Ohiopyle. http://www.bennersmeadowrun.com/index.shtml |

I think Raccoon Creek State Park out by Pgh International Airport would fit all those things, minus the alcohol, because it's a state park. I don't know of any ranges around ohiopyle, but the state gamelands in wexford aren't THAT far from imperial. That just means keep it low key and don't draw attention to yourself.

| Again, thank you for the suggestions guys. Kooser looks great as well. I'm definitely going to look into Kooser if Benner's Meadow Run doesn't work out. I inquired about the cabins at Raccoon, but they don't have anything available the weekend we're looking at. I'm hoping the Benner house is available for when we're looking to go because it looks like all the other cabins they rent out are closed during the winter. |
