Hi all, I'm looking into the area around Chambersburg for a move in about five years. Any good ranges in the area? Anything I should know?

There are several gun ranges. Chambersburg Rod & Gun Club, Chambersburg Rifle & Pistol, and an indoor range are all right in Chambersburg. A lot of the other towns close by have clubs also (St. Thomas, Shippensburg). There is lots of organized trap, sporting clays, popcorn etc... locally. No 3 gun or really any EBR shoots that I am aware of.

What is bringing you to the area?

Well, I hate living in the People's Republic of New York, and Pennsylvania is a free state that is close enough to allow an easy ride to visit family still in NY. I originally looked in NE PA, but everything up there has a gas lease attached to it, and I won't buy something and risk having 200 people show up the next day to start drilling wells all over my new range.
I'm also a Civil War buff, and the area is close to Gettysburg and Antietam. Home prices with some land also seem pretty reasonable based on a quick look at Realtor.com. Did I mention that I hate New York?

Welcome. Hope you can move sooner.
Good choice for a relocate. Lots of public ground west and east of there, state parks with picnic and swimming areas, Appalachian trail not to far to the east. Definately can get a "being in the mountains" feeling while being close to a nice size town. Not sure how the taxes are, but probably less than NY. Some decent trout streams and lake fishing, not to far.

Did the same thing here in 2000. Moved away from WNY because there were just no real jobs and the SNOW sucked ! Wife's Parents moved to Wv about 10 years earlier and We would come down to visit. Drive back to see kids and friends once or twice a year as it's only 6 hours to Buffalo. While I visit Chambersburg and enjoy it I much rather reside in the Eastern Panhandle of Wv as it's the center of the Tri-State region ( and most importantly CHEAP ! LOL ) !  We now have Kid and grandkids in McConnellsburg, Pa about 45 minutes north. Either State beats Ny for quality of life IMHO.......WVleo
