Mrs. Otter-pop and I are moving to eastern PA, looking for advice on a place to live.  Somewhere between Allentown and Philadelphia would be ideal.  Prefer somewhat rural/ small town that still has stuff to do, "Main Street" area.  We are planning a trip on the first week in Dec and intend to stay in Doylestown.  I am an electrician by trade and would like any info in that area as well.
So, where might we look for a nice, quiet place to make a home in eastern PA, please?  Thanks.

ETA:  Will post this in GD also.

Welcome to the Commonwealth.  Where is your place of employ?  It would help us to recommend a place, because traffic can be rather harsh in the corridor between Allentown and Philly (most notably on I-476).

I am following my wife's career, she will be working mostly in NY/NJ but we don't want the tax burden of those states.  We're fortunate that she has a lot of leeway over where to live.  I will be looking for work as an electrician.

Depends what kind of electrician and what type of work you want.  30-45 minutes from Phila toward chester/lancaster/berks county is nice (Morgantown, Honey Brook, Elverson, Pottstown, etc area.  Don't live in Reading itself but the area around it is nice. suburban/rural/small town type area.) .  10-15 minutes from allentown is nice, farther away gets more rural and less job prospects, but you should be good as a skilled tradesman (Hamburg and points further west. Tamaqua and points north. Both roughly 20-30 minutes from Allentown).

I am not big on city areas, but there are nice urban areas surrounding Phila and allentown.  They also have the ghetto/crime areas.

...not to mention, NJ & NY are some of the least gun friendly states on the east coast.  Doylestown is a very nice area, has its rural parts, but if you want "real rural", you will need to go further west.
