All,

Please consider contacting members of the Game and FIsheries Committee to ask that they support Sunday hunting.  Members are listed here.  If you don't want to type out an email, I've created one that anyone can use.  Feel free to edit and make changes to the text below:

Representative ____________,

I would like to thank you for serving the citizens of Pennsylvania.  I write to request your support H.B. 1760, which would end the prohibition on Sunday hunting.

Our state has a rich history; hunting has been a strong part of that history.  Many of your constituents take to the woods numerous times a year to enjoy this great sport. However, Pennsylvania still has draconian laws which prohibit hunting on Sundays.

The additional day of hunting will only serve to strengthen this state's hunting population and encourage more and more young people to get involved.  Due to sporting events, practices and school, many of this state's youth are unable to hunt during the week or even on Saturdays.

As you are aware, many of this state's residents work Monday through Friday, leaving them with only one full day of hunting.  Hunting trips get cut short or residents are forced to use important vacation days in order to take part in hunting during the week.  By allowing hunting on Sunday, jobs may be created and additional revenues may be funneled into rural areas that are desperate for economic growth.  The Legislative Budget and Finance Committee has just released a report which shows that permitting hunting on Sundays could support nearly 7,500 jobs and bring in almost $57 million in states and local taxes.  Retail sales of $460 million are projected, further driving the economic recovery that our state needs.  These results are similar to the results of a study presented in June, 2005, to the House Game and Fisheries Committee by the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee.

Sunday hunting has been greatly successful as part of a comprehensive wildlife management plan in many other states.  In fact, Pennsylvania is only one of a handful of states that still prohibits Sunday hunting.  I would ask that you support H.B. 1760, allowing Pennsylvania to follow an overwhelming majority of other states which permit Sunday hunting.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Respectfully,

xxxx

I like it just the way it is, no Sunday hunting.

The hunters have the woods 6 days per week all hunting season.

Sunday is when I do some target shooting, ride quads or snowmobile, cut wood or whatever without interfering with hunters.

I would love Sunday hunting.
Hunting season for me is only the 2 week statewide, and Sunday would be a great way to get more mileage out of it since I can not go out on all the weekdays.

I like seeing these ridiculous, religion based blue laws bite the dust. It doesn't hurt to see the 'OLFuds get apoplectic over the prospect of it either. Can't wait for the day I'll be able to hunt deer with an FAL or an AR.

Sunday hunting is neccessary.  The old guard is dying off.  PA used to boast a million hunters but we have dwindled significantly.  Many factors are responsible for the shrinking number of hunters.

With suburban sprawl eating up hunting land it is much more difficult to take a few hours after work to push the local wood lot.  Attitude for hunting is increasingly hostile due to liberal ideologies being adopted throughout the nation.  Current deer management practices favor a program that caters to a smaller herd leaving hunters with a smaller chance at success.  And with many middle aged and young generations working more and having less leisure time the investment isnt worth the reward.  Not many people have the resources to drive hours to the woods on a Friday evening and hunt Saturday and return Sunday and back to work Monday.  In today's society it isnt doable on average.  I cannot tell you how many weekends I wish I could have hunted one more day since the travel to and from as well as the issues with work bookending the trip.  It just isnt worth it for most people.  Allowing that Sunday would encourage more people to spend time hunting.  For example, I invited my buddy to hunt with me this weekend and he said he cant because the gas alone would be over $120 round trip and it wasnt worth it for one day of hunting.  Then take this to spring turkey season.  You can only hunt until noon.  Who is gonna drive half way across the state, spend a wad of cash on gas and food just to hunt five hours?  Not many.  These days it is hard for people to get a weekend away to enjoy some leisure time.  Hunting is an expensive sport and it just isnt feasable for the guys who are only able to get away one or two weekends a season.

The PGC has resorted to a massive doe hunting management program to increase revenues.  Most hunters do not like it but the PGC has not been able to get a license price increase through the legislature and with hunter numbers dwindling they had to resort to selling lots of doe tags and opening up the seasons.  Unless we get Sunday hunting we can expect to see our numbers continue to shrink.  The idea that Sunday is some protected day is dated and not practical to managing and promoting the shooting sports in our state.  In order to survive as a community and protect the resources we have from being absorbed by the DCNR we need to attract new hunters and sustain the ones we have.  If the PGC goes under and the DCNR takes the reigns hunting will be a fucking mess in this state run by the politicians in Philly and Pittsburgh.

Get with it guys, the golden age of PA hunting is gone, forever.  If we do not get Sunday hunting, we only hurt ourselves in the long run.  You only deny yourself if you do not support Sunday hunting.  Sunday hunting means more hunters.  More hunters means a bigger voice on the stage.  In reality if you do not support Sunday hunting you help the antis.

Sunday hunting would be great and i emailed everyone on the committee but judging by the responses i received from them I don't see it happening. These people are in districts with too many farmers and others that oppose sunday hunting.
