I understand this is a 3-gun style event. I'm covered with a Stag, Rem 870 and Glock, but have some questions for the experts regarding my Rem 870. The 870 is a bone stock Field gun with 26" barrel and standard capacity. Will that do it for the event? Or, should I scramble to get a shorter barrel and extension tube? Or, should I plan to bring ammo and use someone else's at the event?
While I'm at it, I have a Galco leather holster for my Glock. I do not have a positive lock or kydex style available for use. Any issues there? Should I go to the local shop to pick something else up? I hate to spend money on equipment I won't use with any regularity. I have another Stag Model 6 sitting at the shop that I have to pay off!!!! Plus, I need to find a way to put a high-end optic on top of that beast! Thanks Jeff |

I don't own a shotgun. I'm planning on taking a few boxes of shells and borrowing a shottie from someone. I'm going to buy more shells than I need and give the extras to the person who lets me borrow their gun as a thank you gesture. I'm hoping that someone with a semi-auto shotgun lets me use it for the shoot. |

All I know for sure is that I am very excited for the shoot.
Here's my gear checklist: An AR and a bunch of mags Glock 17L and three mags (only have 3) Sling Redi-Mag Pistol mag pouches .223 ammo 9mm ammo 12ga shells, and hope that I can borrow a shotgun Ear pro Eye pro Cleaning & lube supplies Missing anything? |
| Just a heads up for those who planned to use their hunting shotguns for the zombie shoot. I'm sure they will work fine but from 3gun experience I urge you to try and get or borrow a higher capacity, shorter shottie. I used my mossberg 500 hunting gun and it was a tactical disadvantage and major buzzkill. The longer barrel made handling and reloads slower and with lower capacity i had to reload twice as much as everyone else and it ended up killing my score and pissed me off! Remember the zombie shoot is an action event so you can expect challenging CoF and multiple reloads. On another note, a good positive locking hardsided holster is not a bad idea. Again lots of movement can be expected from various positions and will probably be safer for you and the gun. Just my .02 I dont want anyone's day ruined by equipment or firearm limitations. This is gonna be fun so be prepared! Dan |

Thanks Jeff Jeff, Let me see if I can help but first understand that 2009 Zombie is a shoot that utilizes three guns and not a 3-Gun Match. Your goal is to survive not rack up points or avoid time penalties. As such, your stock 870 is perfectly fine for this event. You need not modify it in any way. For your Glock, the holster you mention is fine. We require that all shooters have a strong side holster. This is to aid our shooters with muzzle control in our pistol stage. You are 100% good to go with the gear that you have mentioned for our shoot. Regards, Gary Site Director 2009 Zombie Shoot at LRGC |

See you next month. (BTW, check went in the mail Friday from Lansdale. I would expect it to hit your mailbox Tuesday/Wednesday.) Thanks. Jeff |

Gary,
I don't think it has been spelled out anywhere, but should we plan to engage targets out to 200yds (i.e. leave the short stuff @ home w/ the women and children)? In the past, with the 3gun "Matches", engagements have been >50yds. Reading the Zombie page, I get the impression that Zombie "Shoot" will incorporate both distance and CQB engagements. Can you provide any clarification? Regards, Matthew |

Matthew,
While I can't give away all the "secrets" of our Zombie COF, llet me say if I had to bring one rifle and my choice was an AR15 A4 with a 20" barrel and a 4x ACOG TA01 or an 11.5" SBR with an Eotech I would most likely choose the 11.5 SBR. Fargo, What say you? Gary |

I know the course of fire. MUAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
I'm shooting precision, but if I was going to be an AR driver, I'd favor a 16" carbine or 20" rifle with an ACOG or Dot. Most of the rifle work is 25-200 with average being around 120Y. This doesn't mean you're not going to get your CQB-Fu on.... There's LOTS of close-up Zombie work to be done with the other guns..... ––Fargo007 |

Would you recommend a 50yd zero on the rifle? How large is the "target area" for most of the rifle targets, i.e. a 50 yard zero puts me a few inches high at 100yd. Would that get the job done? |

Remember the zombies are coming for you, if you think it will take you 3 times longer to reload with a specific platform, you might not want to use it. THERE ARE NO POINTS IN THIS MATCH. :) |

There you have it! While not the definitive answer I was looking for (I didn’t really expect one), it makes my decision easy. If I brought the 9mm AR firing 147gr sub-sonic ammo from a 5” barrel, I would need to hold my Aimpoint 16” high for 125yds, and nearly 6’ high (yes, that’s six feet) at 200yds. Guess it will be the 16” carbine w/ ACOG. The 10.5” w/ iron sights didn’t work out so well at last month’s practical match.
