| For you hunters in N.E. Pa. Have you been seeing many dogs this year and what areas? |
| I'm on the Bradford/Susquehanna County border. I've only actually seen one living coyote in the last year (seen several roadkill or taken by hunters) , but my neighbor hunts them every weekend. When the weather is good and I'm outside, I can hear coyotes virtually every night. However, I don't hunt them. |
| Yeah Matt I remember you telling about them last summer when i was fishing your pond. What I'm obviously doing is scouting for dogs via online as well as scouting the areas I hunt physically. You probably know Triton Hose company in Tunkhannock has a coyote hunt the end of this month. Every dog brought in is worth$100.00, The largest of the day is $250.00 and the largest of the 3 days is $2,000.00 You and your brother should give it a try! I just started hunting them last year and all you really need is a couple of mouth calls. If you need an application for the hunt I can send you one, just IM or E-mail me your address. Russ |

I really haven't seen or heard of as much activity in the Northeast area of PA as I have in the past. In the past, I'd generally hunted in Tioga and Bradford counties, but since moved on to hunt the southern I-81 corridor (south of Bloomsburg) where I found them to be very plentiful. Now that I'm living in New England, the Northeast area of PA is closer than some of those old hunting grounds. Thus far, I haven't found anyone in that neck of the woods who has reported significant coyote sign and I have not seen any roadkilled coyotes at all. Because of this, I've been instead hunting up in the Adirondacks where lately it seems that there are more coyotes than people. Our camp took a number of them this year and now that there's plenty of snow and ice out there and no deer hunters in the woods, I'll be heading back out to work them a bit.
If you do find any areas in NE PA that you hear of activity, I'd be interested to know as well! |
| I've only found a couple of dog tracks over the last two weeks and I'll probably hunt the area I was in yesterday as I found a lot of other animal sign as well, a good food supply. At least thats where I'd be hunting if I were a coyote. I also spotted a very large dog there a couple of months ago. |

The ones along I-81 were basically going after roadkill and so far as I could tell, didn't even bother to chase the deer herd like they do up in the Adirondacks. There was an interesting article in Predator Extreme about hunting along highways because of coyotes going after roadkill... looks like I was on to something. |

The only coyote I saw last year during the hunt had been hit within a hundred yards of a deer that was road kill. I did try picking them up and staged them in a field for bait but it might be better staged along a section of unpopulated road. I guess I'll be on the lookout for roadkill till the end of the month. |
