So the state closed the rt 100 shooting range for one month LAST YEAR to get the lead out (still closed) now I find the rt 93 and the Rt380 ranges closed to not that I shoot at the state ranges but this is crazy |

You could be like everyone else and just go randomlly shoot on the State Game Lands. You'd be amazed at how many piles of 7.62x39 and 5.56 I find in food plots. You mentioned the range around Rt.100 (SGL 043 - French Creek) where do you live? There are a number of better options in that area if you don't belong to a club already. You mentioned that you don't really shoot at the state ranges, so this may be a non-issue. |

I used to use an SGL range in Eastern PA on a regular basis last year, almost every weekend. It seemed to be somewhat lesser known to the city people. I really enjoyed going there. Got to know one of the game wardens somewhat, and also made some friends out of some of the other regulars. I know before I left the area, the one at Dillsburg was "temporarily" closed. I never shot at that one, but went by and checked it out a few times. Always seemed to be filled with thugs. Anyone know if this one is reopened yet? |
the range on 93 that is south of Hazelton is closed? |
I used to go to the French Creek Range all the time. I keep calling to see when it will reopen and as of yesterday that best answer they could muster up was, "at least another month." I'm about to go up there with a damn shovel and hammer and finish the thing myself. |

I just checked out the range off of rt93 and its still closed. When I went there around the end of July they at least had a letter saying they expected to be reopened around the first week of august. No letter now, just a few signs that the range is closed. Really wanted to take my young cousin shooting today. |

The state game ranges were nice in that anyone could use the range. The problem with private clubs is that many don't allow a member to bring a guest to use their ranges. I'd like to help my adult sister learn to shoot, but the range I belong to does not allow that, and it's difficult and expensive to join that one. If the game commission does not have enough money to maintain their ranges maybe they could start a membership program of their own for people that do not buy hunting licenses. Could be a yearly fee to use any range in the state. |
This is a good idea. You could buy an annual shooting range license anywhere that sells hunting licenses. Either would entitle you to use of SGL ranges. Make it high enough to discourage the human trash but not prohibitive for the average Joe who wants to shoot. Say $20-25. |
I don't care one bit about the Fudds. But if they got rid or the round limit I would pay a fee to shoot. |
