I am currently a Michigan resident and am looking at moving to Pennsylvania because I am possibly going to be getting a job in Maryland.  I will not move to Maryland due to the awful gun laws.

My question is, does anyone know of any good areas to live that is really close to the Maryland border and Highway 83.  I would need to live south of York, but I need a place were the cost of living is not real high.

Thank you for your help and any input.

Try Shrewbury. It is directly on I83 and is only a couple of miles from the border.  Plus there is a Class III Dealer in town too.

Freedom Armory is supposedly going to have an indoor range completed*  sometime before Thanksgiving.

*They've been promising that range for a couple of years now.  And now I'm told it is finally under construction.

I live near Hanover, near the border. This area is building up rapidly due to the transplanted MD people (myself, I moved here in '95). You can still get a house for a reasonable price, but that is changing. Land goes for about $50k/acre; it's MUCH higher, once you go into MD. Anywhere between Hanover and Shrewsbury would be alright. Depends where in MD you have to commute to; you might find that you need to buy somewhere east of Shrewsbury, but anywhere in Southern York county would work, most likely.

Check CAREFULLY on local township tax rates before moving; they can vary WIDELY.

Welcome.

From Shrewbury, the drive is approx. 1 hour for me to get to work in MD.  I really don't want to live to much further north than that because I will already be putting a lot of miles on my car.  I will probably start out living in a apartment for a while, does anyone know if there are any apartment complexes in Shrewbury?
