Tell me about Prescott please. Too many years till retirement and permanent relocation, but we want a second home/property where we can live among like minded people during the summer months and long weekends.
Are there any year round 25 yard lap pools to work out in? My wife is a lifelong swimmer and that is one of her non negotiable requirements. Indoor or outdoor as long as it is open year round and within 20/30 minutes of where we end up. How about shooting ranges? Gun stores? Woodworking/lumber supply stores? Craft stores? (Planning on a fixer upper to give us something to do) How about hiking and other outdoor activities? Are there areas to avoid? Areas to look at? We are looking at a <$250K purchase price. I would be moving some of my firearm collection, woodworking tools, and keeping a vehicle in the garage year round. It would be nice if I did not have to worry too much about them. Anything else I need to know? |

The nearest pool here is the Prescott YMCA Lap Pool, and it does have 25 yard lanes.
We have an established range in Chino valley but with so much land to go shooting privately, I honestly do not see a point in paying what you can basically do for free and get a better area to shoot in. There is also Prescott Action Shooters if you're wanting to compete that is down the ponderosa from Prescott in Wilhoit. We've got a lot of shops here, you'll find plenty for your interests. There is a decent community of arfcomers here or near the area. There is much to do with the outdoors here. If you get bored with the area, well you're in central AZ and can easily get to places not far away to do other outdoor things. The further you're from town, the safer your things will be. When and if you decide to get to know us, I'm pretty sure if you ask, that we can check on things because that is what good neighbors do. I don't know where you're coming from but this is a god fearing people location, we don't like being told what to do and how to live from big city thinkers or blue state fuckwits, we like our law enforcement, we like our guns, and love to hunt. |

Fair statement. Coming from a "former" conservative base (Irvine) in Southern CA. Used to hang out, and have our kids play with each and everyone of our neighbors. Our kids are older now but neighborhood/city dynamics have changed so much we rarely speak the same language. My wife and I are Followers of Christ and have raised our children the same. Also do not like being told what we can and can not do - our big reason for wanting out of CA. Blue line supporter, and did my first dove hunt long before high school...came to age during the Reagan era , and it pains us to see what our beautiful state has become. Oh yea - my gun safe is a 42 gun model and it is full.

fastswift, I did exactly what your are thinking 11 years ago. Living in the PRNJ I wanted to have a place to retire to that isn't a liberal stink hole but had years to go before I could retire. Wife and I found a great home in Prescott and used it for vacations until I retired last year.
The Prescott area is, IMO, the best place to live in Arizona. Great mild 4 season weather and very varied scenery with a lot of open space for outdoor activities. Decide what type of environment you want to live in, mountain pine forest, rolling hills, flat lands or in the town. That will greatly help in steering you to the areas to look at. You house price point of $250k is at the lower end of the market but it is doable if you don't need a large lot or newer home. Let us know when you come for a visit and we'll arrange a get together. |

saintmark got me hooked onto Hornady. I use Lee to size and decap, Hornady to bulk load, and RCBS to make precision. I tried to like the Dillon, I just couldn't. Quoted:

I am an equal opportunity reloader tho with a RCBS and an old Texan turret press getting equal play. Anyway - back to my original question. My wife and I will be spending some time in the Prescott area on her next break. Been hearing a lot of good things about the area. |
| I live in Dewey in the Prescott country club neighborhood quiet safe well maintained homes in an affordable price range. Club has a pool but not open year round. Great area for conservative gun owners I shoot at chino valley and yavapai rec league ( both about 30-40 minutes away) and a commercial indoor range about ten minutes away. Just moved here 6 months ago highly recommended |

If you decide to visit the area, try to plan either before or after the 18th and 19th of February. It's our hometown shoot. Prescott is a low key, low crime area. We've got the best air as listed by the American Lung Association. Gunsite is in Paulden. The original Tombstone Tactical and Vang Comp is in Chino Valley. Rogers Precision is in Prescott Valley. Battlecomp, Ruger, LRK Mechanical, and J&G is in Prescott. Plenty of good food here. The town square always has activities going on during the weekends. We will keep in mind your suggestions - although some campfire debauchery sounds entertaining. |

I just got back from a trip to Prescott, lots of gun stores (My buddy would up with a Schmdit-Ruben straight pull rifle, very good shape).
VA hospital is right there too. Whiskey row is nice and and a darn good bakery right around the corned on Gurley Street, make a decent cannoli. |
