My son will be home for spring break and both of us need a break. We are looking to do some shooting ,golfing and just plain relaxing. I also want to look at some real estate while we are there March 13-20..any suggestion would be appreciate. Maybe we can hook up with a community member.

Thanks
Dan

If you give us some potential destinations, you will get a better response.  Arizona is a big place with widely spaced population areas.

If you don't mind the heat, I'd say nearby Phoenix would be a good place to look for a home because there's lots of golfing and shooting matches going on. If you want cooler weather and trees, mountains, then I'd suggest Prescott and above.

If you were thinking of Prescott or above, then let me know if you'd like to meet up for a meal. Wouldn't be my first time showing out of state arf folk around, certainly will not be my last.

What is it that you do for work? That could help us as well with giving you some suggestions.

Prescott sounds like the place. I'm in the construction industry in NYC as a CM its been along 30 years with the same company now its time to enjoy my life . I have two that will be finishing college so now is the day of reckoning is near.I will be retiring within 12 months with a decent pension so I will buy the eats.  I'll properly bring both sons 25,and 21 everyone here needs a break the winter is grueling and we need to totally " Escape From NY " .

Prescott and NYC will be a night and day experience for you, coming from a high stress to a very low stress environment. We have some golfing here but only one of them is open to the public that I know of. As for shooting well we've got the Prescott Action Shooters down the ponderosa off of the 89 who do the steel challenge as well as some IDPA and the occasional three gun matches, an indoor range off of Iron Springs, and an outdoor range in Chino. But if off the grid shooting is more your thing then we've got a quite a bit of areas for that too.

If you're a vet, we've got an excellent VA hospital here, there's a small airfield nearby that the USMC occasionally fly their Ospreys into, and we're very close to the Ruger plant. There are some decent shops here as well, and Vang Comp is in Chino the town over, J&G has a store in Prescott, and we have gun shows usually once a month. Williams is close and from there you can take a train ride to the Grand Canyon, and Flagstaff isn't too far away for your hunting needs.

The law enforcement here is really professional and this is AZ, they won't mess with you if you're doing outside or concealed carrying.

Hey thanks for the information sounds like a really nice place . The golf course thing is not to exciting but everything you describe is very vivid. It would take me several years to calm down.

I had forgotten this but we also have Gunsite in Paulden which is next to Chino, about a half hour drive. Lots of forest areas to get away and do camping or having a fire to chill out for the evening. There are trails to walk or climb depending on the mountain or terrain, we've got a lake and some people do fish.

I have high PTSD and I get into rage's from time to time, some of it is survivor's guilt, some of it is from flashbacks. I'm not calm yet, but I'm a lot calmer here than anywhere else because I let nature and being outdoors heal my soul. I'm medically retired, never got to leave the Army on my own terms after 21 years. So with that said I do understand stress and the toll it takes. There's a spot heading up to Jerome in Mingus mountains that is perfect to chill out, breathe the clean air, and keeping your mind at ease, good to read a book or eating lunch.

There are some good arfcom folk here as well in the other areas of Arizona, there's no better hometown folk than our own and I believe as well as know that. I don't know if you've browsed our slice of arf, but we have good folks who will lend a hand when in a bind, need advice, or a shoulder to cry on.

Thanks for your service I wish it was something I had done. Some of my friends are retired military others were in for a few years. Wish they never left and stayed, instead they got married and wished they were back in the service. I like the nature aspect and like to challenge myself with hikes and assorted activities. At this age the biggest challenge is trying to take care of my mind and body. I cant complain as tough as life has been through out the years, life is a good.
I walk the same path 3 miles almost everyday for several years and my wife complains about it . I tell her Its never the same ,its different. I will visiting Arizona with my one son.I would like to make up my mind and book the trip by the end of this week.  The plan is March 13-19,20 something like that. Golf is not a must but I would like to say I played a round of golf while I was in Arizona. I would like to hook up with a few members to get a different perspective on life in  Arizona which is something I never experienced. Coming from a controlling communist state I wonder how freedom feels.

If we hook up I'm buying.

You mentioned bringing your children with you, did you mean for the vacation or when you move?  Prescott is a great area, but it doesn't have a lot going on in terms of economy and good jobs.  No issue for a retiree, but for young people starting out, might be a fairly large hurdle.

Only one of my guys (he's 22) will be coming with me for vacation just looking to relax do some shooting ,hiking, site seeing and just hanging out away from the cold weather for a few days. Right now my daughters in Florence Italy going to School. The one coming with me is graduating from the University of Buffalo this May so this is a little break the winters in Buffalo are unforgiving and brutal . So together farther and son will hang out and explore some of Arizona. Two fold mission, I'm getting ready to retire so we need a family fall back compound somewhere in this country for now and we need to warm up for a few days..

Might as well start looking in Arizona

Im in Prescott as well.  If you want to go 4 wheeling while here, let me know.  I can show you around and even suggest a realtor to talk to if you like.
