A little PSA in light of seeing mrhunter602's post regarding his stolen firearms. This is just another reminder to document/photograph all serial numbers/ accessories/cost etc. of all your weapons AND really everything with a serial number. Its holiday time and this is the time people start doing house burgs to scrape up some cash to buy their tweeker family something "nice:

I just updated mine with all new photographs as well as made an electronic/ hard copy of my serial numbers. Its even as easy as just taking photos of the guns and serial numbers and uploading them to a secure photobucket/flickr account .

Yep I do the same thing and have a rider policy with my insurance company to cover firearms, however they do not cover ammo which sucks as we all know it's feeding them that's the expensive part.

Anyone know of a good place to insure firearms and ammo?

USAA. I'm covered by either way by car or home from rat fucks.

It helps to document your stuff too, full of pics so you can claim everything and get exactly what you paid for in cash with cash to replace.

Thanks for the reminder - after reading the thread about mrhunter getting robbed, I made plans to update all of my records today with photos and video.

Access database on three hard drives and a memory stick, along with photos.  I even have a checkbox for owned/sold.  That way I can sort and look at the ones I sold and cry in my beer.

I also took photos of the serial number plate of all my electronics.  (Put the camera on MACRO!!)

hmmmm.....may have to put a mark on my uppers for ID purposes, maybe a serial number on the inside top of the receiver. If they take the upper off the lower, how can you really prove the upper is yours.....

I use SpiderOak to backup and sync data between systems (and backs up online). I maintain a spreadsheet with my information, and a folder of pictures. Free for small amounts, though you need to make sure you never lose your credentials. Due to the level of security, your data would be inaccessible. Good opportunity to use something like Lastpass for passwords if you are not already doing so. Both of these products are super easy to use, and way more secure than flicker/photobucket/etc (but these are still way better options than doing nothing or storing the information locally).

Hell, even emailing your gmail or other service with the information is better than not having it. Set up a gmail account (or use existing), snap the pictures with your phone and add the serial number to the email and send it to that account if you are really lazy about it =)

If you want to use SpiderOak, you get 2gb of space for free. I pay for a bunch so there is no benefit for me here, but using this referral will get you 3gb for free instead of 2. (for those interested) SpiderOak Referral Link

Are you sure about that? I'd still be recording my serial numbers.

He should know better. If you leave 3 bowling balls with 2 privates, and can come back & find 1 broken, 1 pregnant and 1 abducted by aliens, just think what fun the AZHTF could have with his safe(s)!

You're giving Privates way too much credit.

Seriously.
