| Wondering if anyone knows of any good campsites within a few hours north of Phoenix. Looking to get my wife into camping, and don't want anything too remote for her first time out. Looking just for a small tent site, don't need much else. |

If you take 260 east from Payson towards Heber it'll take you up on the Mogollon Rim. Just as you top the rim on the left will be the Willow Spring Lake Road (north side). On the right (south) side is a small Ranger cabin & parking lot. If you take the road (FR 512) past the cabin it'll take you out to several campsites right on the edge of the Rim. Beautiful views. If you want bathrooms, continue down 260 it'll take you to FR300 which leads to the Black Canyon Rim Campground. Also a pretty cool place to camp. It'll take you about 2-2.5 hours from Phoenix to get there. Considering how close it is, the Rim is hard to beat. |
