I just hacked back the jungle in my back yard and discovered this (the mud thing, not the Troy magazine). Can anyone tell me what it is? Should I kill it with fire?

DON'T DESTROY THE NEST
Even though most of the wasps have hatched, it is a mud wasp nest and they keep the spider population down. If you were to break open one that still has the end sealed you would find a bunch of paralyzed spiders with a little egg on the last one in. Kind of gross of you think about, the spiders move really slowly and are eaten alive by the larvae but it does keep the Black Widow numbers down. |

They eat black widows, and aren't usually aggressive towards humans. |

I guarantee, you'll change your mind on that, if you're ever hit (stung) by one of those bastards....  . Spectracide kills spiders nicely, and crush the mud daubers nest....
