My sister landed a job as a teacher in North eastern Casa Grande, AZ. I'm trying to help her find a nice safe place to live down there within about 25 minute commute but I am unsure of where to begin looking. Using tools like neighborhood scout really aren't helping much, so I am seeking help from some locals here. Where would be a good place to look. Just graduated college and looking at about a 35k salary. Likely needing to rent a 1 bd apt. Thanks in advance everyone, I do look forward to visiting your awesome 2a friendly state as well as I haven't been there in quite a few years.
Thanks in advance

I would suggest looking in south Chandler and making the commute.

And is she working for a school in the city, or on the Rez?

"North Eastern" Casa Grande sure sounds like Sacaton (the reservation) but that doesn't mean that she shouldn't do it. My grandparents taught on the reservation for years, just a different culture and lifestyle is all.

South Chandler is nice because then she will have the malls, decent neighborhoods, and other nice amenities. Chandler is considered an upper middle class neighborhood in Arizona.

Maricopa is close to Casa Grande and a little nicer with really inexpensive newer homes but is about 16 miles South of Chandler. Whatever she does, do not live below the railroad tracks. This area of Arizona is heavily traveled by rail and you do not want to get stuck waiting for a train.

It's probably vista Grande high school. If she's willing to commute Chandler isn't a bad idea but it is a decent drive. Casa Grande isn't the best but it's not the worst. I wouldn't want to live/work in pinal county. But I grew up in Coolidge. Twenty minutes from casa Grande

Has Maricopa bounced back yet?  Last I paid any attention to that area was shortly after the crash.
It was getting ghetto with all the foreclosures and abandoned housing.

South Chandler is nice FWIW.

SW Chandler, near the 202, it is a straight shot onto the 10, stay away from Maricopa, it is the world's largest cul-de-sac.
Any reason not to look at Casa Grande? It has built up quite a bit in the last several years.

Casa Grande is still pretty dumpy.

I too would recommend Chandler. She could take 87/AZ Ave to I10 to get to Casa Grande. Maybe a 30-40min drive each way.

$35K a year is not a lot if she is going to commute that far every day from Chandler.  I lived in Casa Grande for a while, they have some nice areas.  Find a solid apartment there, and save the commute $.  There is plenty to do in CG area now, building more every day.

Keep in mind that is 9 months a year with all holidays and weekends off and some of the best benefits of any profession. Still, not a ton of money but when all things are considered, not too bad for a new college graduate.

I agree, the OP's sister should look for housing in Casa Grande or in Maricopa for innexpensive housing. Her quality of life will be much higher if she lives within her means instead of commuting.

I live in the far eastern part of Maricopa, out by the VW test track. It's about a 15-20 min drive to Casa Grande from here. About the same to Chandler/Tempe

Commute from the Valley will be a bear, but if she's a new-grad, she may like the lifestyle better in the valley than in Casa Grande or Maricopa.

Cost of living in Maricopa will be very low (Pretty sure foreclosures are still a dime a dozen down there), but you're a long ways from anywhere, and there's really nothing to do. And did I mention that half the houses are vacant?

There are good chunks of Casa Grande, and I'd lean that way if you weren't going to live in the Valley.

Sorry to knock 'copa... I just know too many people who've been burned living out there, trying to save a couple bucks. Tell her to buy something that gets really good gas mileage, instead.

This is my advice as well.  At $3.65/gallon I'd want to save as much gas as possible making $35K a year.

I live in the 'Copa" as well and do enjoy living out here. It's not near as bad as many people say but as  new single college grad I'd stay away. I'd move toward Chandler, Ahwatukee or even Tempe
