Just scored this one yesterday, $500 SA M1 Garand. The barrel is shot and needs to be replaced. Does anyone here have the tools and expertise to change it out? I can either pay for a meal at a nice restaurant or bar of your choice.

Obligatory pics:

That is sharp.  There was a person in Phoenix that did some great work for me but this was years ago and he was kind of old then. Let me dig through my stuff and if I find out who it was, I'll let you know.

If you want it done right by folks who work on Garands every day of the week, the CMP has a custom shop now:

Looks like its got the early lockbar rear sight as well.

Reciever dates from about June/July 1944.

What year is the barrel? It may be worth more to leave the original barrel on if it still has it.

Really, by just how much? I'm keeping her but if it is worth more should I just buy a beater stock to save this one?

I took a few more photos, hopefully this and the rest can be useful because I'm newish to the surplus C&R game:

I had just ordered a SA milled trigger guard, and since I'll have to get it installed, here's a pic of the trigger group; The safety isn't going into safe, any ideas to solve this?

I have a GAW stock in nice shape. For shits and giggles I looked it up on ebay. I couldn't believe what they go for. Yours has a nice clear stamp.

The OProd is post war, as is your trigger guard and assembly.  Is it not snapping into safe at all?  might have to tear it down and check the parts.

The CMP has a great page for rifle break down and assembly.  I would be happy to help, I have quite a few books, and a few Garands and parts myself.

The is a nice stock.  You could do very well selling it.  The barrel may be the original.  You have a nice find there, needs some TLC.

Barrel dates to June 1944. It is likely original to the receiver.

I would replace the trigger guard with a milled one and call it good.

I would not re-barrel due to the original barrel. Take a good picture of the bore and post. It may not be as "shot-out" as you think.

Milled trigger guard installed:

I'll add the bore in an hour or two for an edit.

Did breaking down the trigger assembly and switching out the trigger guard fix the safety issue?

The op rod is correct, but it has the modified cut which was done as part of a rebuild mod. You could find a unmodified op rod then you would have a period correct gun. Nice find.

Shuff's Parkerizing is awesome! I can't say enough about Tim, and you can search about him too. The guy is outstanding and honest, does great work.

Suff's Parkerizing

He replaced a barrel and repark'd my M1, and did a trigger job. It is an excellent job.

Bore shots, not the best at this with photography though:

Clean it and shoot it first.   Any idea what the TE & ME gauge?

Derek at Accuracy Speaks could re-barrel that.   http://www.accuracyspeaks.com/

That looks like some great rifling.

Clean it and shoot it. I bet it will do just fine.
