Spillover from the other thread. We had talked about July 13&14. It seemed that this was when the most people could go.
Latest ideas sound like some car camping somewhere cooler than the valley. For sometime in July? |

I can only make it for Saturday.
It would be fun to setup some low volume shooting competitions, including long range work and targets that could be engaged with a .22. We could also incorporate non-firearm skills such as physical obstacles, field medicine, punching Berd in the face, etc. |

Poll fail.
You forgot... "I'm so that it hurts pleasantly in my crotchal region"
Well that is my answer. Rizzo's post basically sums up what I'd be most interested in doing (other than punching Berd, as that might lead to grappletastic homocide). The days of dumping mags into the dirt have by necessity come to an end. For me anyway. It will suck that RichV cannot make it to the 13/14 dates, I would post something jokingly about a false bomb threat at sky harbor to change his schedule but I wouldn't want the NSA to find this post and... (knock knock) Uh hang on, I have to answer the door... |

A lot more discussion with a fair amount of shooting. |

cant make it, will be backpacking in yosemite np. Nice! I just got back from a weeklong backpacking trip in yosemite. Do you know your route? SERIOUSLY?! DAMN IT!!! This time of year is very difficult for me -- I literally go stir crazy and start twitching with a yearning desire to leave for the Yosemite Valley. Where did you backpack? Any chance you spent some time at the bridge that goes over the Merced in front of El Cap? |

cant make it ill be backpacking in yosemite np. Nice! I just got back from a weeklong backpacking trip in yosemite. Do you know your route? Yeah... starting at tamarack flat and ending at mirror lake via snow creek. We are hiking along the top edge of the north side of the valley rim passing the top of el capitan, Yosemite falls, and north dome. Great pic from your hike! |

At least to the top of El Cap and back. It is awesomely beautiful. The panoramic vista from the top of El Cap is indescribable. Hope you have an incredible time. |

Not exactly.
This is from Yavapai County: "The fire ban covers the unincorporated areas of the County. Each fire department or district has the authority to apply fire restrictions for their respective jurisdiction. Many jurisdictions such as Skull Valley FD, Peeples Valley FD, Yarnell FD, and Congress follow the County’s Ban Policy. The jurisdictions of Prescott, Central Yavapai Fire District follow the National Forest’s stage restrictions. Check with your local fire jurisdiction for more information. Chino Valley also follows along. Let's all hope for rain so it's a moot point. |

... learning is fun http://www.pepperridgenorthvalley.com/monsoon_basics.php#monsoon |
|
Nice site! Good explanation of AZ's weather. |
|
With fire restrictions going into effect tomorrow, and the Prescott fire occurring today, it appears unlikely that we will be having a shoot in the Chino Valley area anytime soon.
Options for secondary plan... Same area camping but with no fires or shooting? Different area camping and shooting? Postpone event? Another Phoenix area meet & greet? What do you guys think? |
|
I wouldn't give up just yet. It looks bleak at the moment, but a good Monsoony (?) week would clear it up just like that. If the monsoons DON'T arrive my guess is the fire restrictions will blossom all over the state.
The fire at the moment is west of Chino Valley and to the south. If you're familiar with the Williamson Valley corridor, those are the folks to worry about. |

Yep. The Doce pit area. As soon as they called it the 'Doce Fire' I started wondering if we have target shooters to blame for this. Oh boy, wouldn't that just help our situation with the Forest Service.
I've been shooting for almost forty years and have yet to see a fire started from bullets. But then I don't shoot any of those steel core things - that's the only way I can see it happening. I do see idiot smokers tossing finished but still lit butts off into the weeds all the time! I'm blaming the fucking smokers but who knows for sure!! |
that it hurts pleasantly in my crotchal region"
