I have a friend that is pretty high up the ladder in corporate, what are you looking to ask?

Mostly curious about unions, I'm not a big fan. Existant? Have to join? Get heck for not joining? Maybe a little about housing and the towns though.

These are all things I can ask HR, but was hoping to get a non HR view point. Phone "screening" Mon for maintenance positions at Miami/Globe and another at Morenci right after.
Thanks.

AZ is a right-to-work state (aka:right-to-fire), so the Union can't require you to join, unfortunately. Since the Unions members PAY for the negotiation process, which sets your wages (usually HIGHER than non-Union negotiated wages), it's only right to pay the dues to support that process. You also get the ability to attend meetings, give your input, and vote on Union things, like the next Contract...  If you're NOT a member, you have NO say in anything.

The non-Union EEs are usually referred to as "Freeloaders", and resented because they aren't paying their fair share ...

Yes I'm a Union member, for 26 years, and counting.    I waited 1 1/2 years to join, I wanted to see what the Union was like, before committing to it.

Where do you work if you don't mind me asking?

I work for FMI, don't have anything to offer on your question but hope the interview(s) goes well - it has proven a great company from my perspective.

Thank you! I appreciate it. Arizona seems like a pretty easy transition from Nevada too.
