I'm currently in school for an associates in fire science. How ever lately I've been looking into the law enforcement field. If I do go into law enforcement I'm leaning towards trying to get on with a department and eventually try to move into a k-9 unit or SWAT. My dad works for CBP Air and Marine and I'm also heavily considering that as well. I would start off as a Border Patrol agent and then try to get on with CBP Air Enforcement or BORTAC.

I was just looking to get anyone's input who has experience with any of these.

Im actually quite the opposite.  All my life growing up I wanted to be in L.E.

As I learned more about the field, I learned I wouldnt be happy dealing with the justice system as it exists.

I am now involved in fire science, and so far, have been happier.

I know every career field has its ups and downs, but my personality has a better fit in the fire service.

Im about 16 credits away from an AAS, so I just have to keep my head up and moving forward.

All cops wanted to be firemen at some point in their life, you very rarely here the same from the other side lol.  If you go with fire science, here is my advice get your state 1&2 done then start looking for a reserve position or as a red shirt cadet whatever.  After that if your really serious about getting on the job and you have no family connection in the fire service get your paramedic certification.  Continue to work where you can or get a job on a box.  Do tons of ride alongs and meet as many people as possible, it is all about who you know.  Have a ton of patience it takes years sometimes to get on the job, good luck!

Son and a Buddy went to GCC and got Associate in FS. Did volunteer work for a small Westside Dept on Alternative Response Van for several years. Told at the beginning of school that it will take 3-5 yrs to get hired after degree. Should have been told 5-7. Both tested with everyone. I was there most weekends filming then. My video was used at graduation. Finally gave up, first the Buddy then my son and tested for PD and both got hired. One year later the small Westside Dept came calling on the Buddy. "THEY WANTED HIM" Son is very happy with PD and Buddy is Very happy with Fire. I am very proud of my son, and his Buddy the Fireman. Along the way I came to learn that if Fire has 5 openings they have 50 come to test. If PD had 50 openings, they get 5 come to test. Right now everyone is short of people and no one is hiring. Buy a smoke alarm and a shotgun.
