Hey guys,
I was out shooting with some family that were in town and was confronted by a Sheriff's Deputy (nice guy BTW) who informed us that we were on State Trust Land. Now I know shooting is not allowed on State Trust Land; what I didn't know is that I was actually on it. We were on the East side of Wentworth Rd. at the dry pond just South of I-10 and the area is not posted. The West side of Wentworth Rd. is posted but the East side where we were at is not. Anyway, does anyone know of an online map that shows what areas are and are not State Trust Land so I don't make the same mistake in the future? Also, does anyone have good, legal areas to shoot around the Tucson area? I prefer to do most of my shooting in the desert rather than at organized ranges. I know the Fuzz closed down the three spots up in Redington. Can we still shoot at other places up in Redington? The deputy told me there was a spot on the way up to Mt. Lemmon (mile marker 4). Has anyone been there? There used to be so many places to shoot when I was growing up. Now it seems like all my old haunts have housing developments around them. |

Not sure if they have a Southern AZ store but here in the Phx area I would go to Wide World of Maps for this info.
I have an old AZ Atlas that shows "public / private" land but I don't know about State Trust. Do know that State Trust designation took away lots of land that we once used for Boy Scout Camping. |

I don't remember who it was but someone here posted this up and I found it pretty useful. |

Damn, Tucson is surrounded by State Trust. Looks like I'm going to have to try to find a spot up in Redington/the Catalinas or somewhere on BLM land around Marana. |

From what I gathered from the thread, they were closing down the three main shooting areas for "riparian" purposes. It should still be legal to shoot at other areas up there though, right? |

Not sure about the riparian areas. i thought it was closed down due to the massive amounts of trash/targets left behind. |
