Thinking of upgrading the old 95 F-250 to something a few years newer with the 7.3 Diesel.
For those with diesels how does the smog check work? I know with newer (ODBII) gas burners they just plug into the on-board computer and the computer which has been spying on you tells them if it is polluting or not. With my 95 they have to run it on the treadmill, and since it's a stick they have to do it over and over since none of those idiots knows how to drive a stick. How does it work with a diesel? Treadmill, chip check, what? |
| I have a 2002 Ford F-250 with the 7.3 in it. When I do the emissions test I just put it in park and when they tell you, you mash the throttle to the floor and red line it for about 3 seconds. You have to do this 3 times with the tester in the tail pipe. I absolutely hate doing the test. |

| I have a '99 F350 7.3. Check VIN, check for necessary smog equip. They put me on the rollers, in Drive, bring it up to the speed they want and hold it for 20-30 seconds. Brake back down to a stop, get compliance paper, drive off. No big deal. They only test me for opacity. |

2006 F250 6.0 - Went last summer for the first time. No rollers, they test the OBDII for codes and they make you do the pedal mash. I did contact ford about the pedal mash, they said that the computer will limit the RPM's. I asked them has anybody blown up a 6.0 because of this test - They said They had not heard of any problems. Its still scary to do that ! |
