I am going to be moving out of Arizona at the end of the summer.

I will need a concealed weapons permit where I'm going, and have verified that the AZ permit is good there.

If I get the permit now, will it still be good for five years if I become a resident of a different state? I'm trying to decide if I should get an Arizona permit now or a North Carolina permit later.

Thanks!

the key word in your question is "resident".
If you are going to be a legal resident of NC, ie getting a NC DL then no.

Michigan offers no "non-resident" option for obtaining a concealed pistol license.  There is also no requirement to update your address if you move (in state or out of state is not defined by any distinction in the language of the MCL)

Therefore, I hold a valid Michigan CPL that does not expire until 2014, in addition to a resident AZ CCW as my permanent resident status changed.  Both are valid.

So the answer to your question is....maybe, it's possible.   But as a student your residency status should not change....as you'll still be a permanent resident of AZ, and a student attending class in another state.

Just renew your AZ CCW when it comes due and you'll be fine.

BTW, NC is a pretty liberal, non-gun loving state.  I'd imagine it'll be worse around the colleges.  You will not be able to get away with carrying your G21 under a spandex shirt anymore.  Buy a J-Frame and a pocket holster before you leave.

I was doing research on their gun laws, and they have some fucking retarded jim crow law on the books that requires you to get a special pistol permit from the sheriff for EACH pistol you buy. And it even appears to be may issue.

I think I answered my own question after reading the detailed FAQ section (missed it the first time around.)

Can non-residents be issued an Arizona permit?

Yes. You must be a resident of Arizona or a U.S. citizen.

AZ does not issues resident and non-resident permits.  They just issue permits.  You could move to McMurdo and your permit would still be good.

Whether NC would honor an AZ permit held by an NC resident is a completely different question.  Most states want you to get their permit if you are a resident because they want the $$$'s.
