I'm pretty set on a move down there in about a year , maybe sooner , to the Phoenix area. Every time I mention it a friend of mine continues to warn me not to do it because "Arizona is running out of water". Is there any substance to this or is it just a homer bucket full of herp derp?

Umm tons of water here. I mean, 5 million people are supported in the middle of a desert. How much more water do you want?

I assumed it was just BS , but I figured I'd ask the folks in the know.

Thanks , Gentlemen

In all seriousness, while it is a desert, and water is to be used sparingly, we're not in any sort of crisis. You can move down here, and we'll likely be in good shape for some time.

We are fine, we have a fantastic reservoir system, and usually get a decent snowpack in the high country.  We also have the Colorado river flowing through as well as a large aquifer system under the valley that we replenish with the Central Arizona Project.

we are in the desert, no question. A major catastrophe with the water supply (cap or other) could result in serious trouble, real fast. however, planning ahead, and  being sensible  doesn't mean you'll be drying up when the remaining 4 million are in full blown sheeple mode.

We've been running out of water energy land food global warming climate change for years now. Don't let that stop you. Except that we're full. Unless you through out 3 hippies or 5 illegals. And pay rizzo his ammo tax.

These two are the most important.

And yeah, we have water. It is the desert, so it's not all over the place like other states, but it's plentiful where it's at.

People have been living in Arizona for the last 10,000 years, and people have been living in Phoenix proper using canals for over 2000 years. We aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

...that said, it's not a bad idea to keep a stockpile of water along with your other preps. If we ever do have a worst-case scenario and the water supply is temporarily interrupted, I'll be sittin pretty at home while everybody else is freaking the fuck out.

Phoenix has a shitload of water because it basically controls the Salt and Verde River drainage water rights.

There are places in AZ that are overbuilt on groundwater usage  that could face serious water issues in the future.

Az has a water bank google "CAP Central Arizona Project" and " Arizona water bank" to read up on it.

TLDR: Leftist idiots in CA and NV are running on empty after 40 years of living only for today, AZ has a water supply that would last years at normal use rates even if the Colorado river went dry today.

Plenty of water but we are chronically short on beer so bring a few cases for the obligatory party all new comers must throw for the natives.

Rizzo will collect the ammo tax during the party.

I never got the concept of wasting water as any kid who has ever taken a science class can tell you that matter cannot be created or destroyed.  so you cant actually run out of water.

It seems to me like the Southeast is going to have a bigger water problem than the Southwest.  AZ is pretty damn great at water management - whenever I hear people from outside the state talk about our supposed water crisis I just roll my eyes.

I think you are taking that too literally. They are just trying to keep you from wasting water. Water that goes down the drain while you brush your teeth has to go back to the water treatment facility and then pumped back through your pipes. It wastes more energy than water really.

Here is some science stuff for you since you like it.

The oceans are huge. About 70 percent of the planet is covered in ocean, and the average depth of the ocean is several thousand feet (about 1,000 meters). Ninety-eight percent of the water on the planet is in the oceans, and therefore is unusable for drinking because of the salt. About 2 percent of the planet's water is fresh, but 1.6 percent of the planet's water is locked up in the polar ice caps and glaciers. Another 0.36 percent is found underground in aquifers and wells. Only about 0.036 percent of the planet's total water supply is found in lakes and rivers. That's still thousands of trillions of gallons, but it's a very small amount compared to all the water available.

AK has water seeping out of everything,AZ is in a state of perpetual drought as far as the topography is concerned. Most of our water comes from a few sources,I've never heard that we were running out though. If we did run out we'd just go kick California's ass and take their water.

Some of the smaller communities can run short at times but mostly due to greed or poor planning from who ever they get their water from. Water levels fluctuate all over the State rather that is in lakes(most are man-made, aka reservoirs), reservoirs, canals, rivers, etc. Kinda' depends how many pools and golf courses need water in the Valley!

As I didn't see any mentions of it.....If us Zonies had a water issue we wouldn't build a lake in downtown Tempe for a triathlon, then drain it so we can have alligators for a few weeks just to fill it back up again for another triathlon.
