I had the pleasure to attend my first handgun course with this training company. If you are looking for an affordable training session that is taught by experienced and friendly instructors then Independence Training is the place to go to! Let me say that I came out of this course not just feeling comfortable with my weapon, I felt confident in my ability to assess a situation and use my sidearm under varying circumstances. Glen, at Independence Training knows how to train people! I purchased a four hour session of private instruction for $150, if you can find a better deal then I'll give you my Dillo. Before this course I thought I was semi-proficient with my handgun, but knew that training was necessary; I just did not have $1000 to dish out. Lets be honest, who does have that much money to spend on training on a regular basis? At Independence Training they understand this and tailor very affordable courses for the average person. Don't let the price fool you because it is on par, if not better than the equivalent $1000 dollar courses. I will continue practicing the skills I learned and will definitely be training with Independence Training again in the future. I highly recommend them if you want an affordable, personable and useful course. Overall, I am now confident that I will be able to act on my own under stressful and chaotic circumstances if I continue to practice and improve my skills. PM me if you have any specific questions about my experience.

Thanks Glen!!

Also, check out his Journal of a Sheepdog on the website, I found it very insightful.

I haven't had the privilege of taking one of Glen's classes yet, but did some work for him and just from that interaction I can say he is a class act. Will be attending some of his classes in the new year once work calms down.

IT's classes are a "class" act in themselves...but if you want to have fun and memories, gather up some of your close buddies and set up a weekend of "private" sessions.  A group of us "friends" arranged for a weekend of advanced pistol following with a day of defensive carbine.  The first morning I was gearing up with the knee and elbow pads (shown as optional on their list of equipment) and my macho buddies were laughing and asking where the firefight was happening (they also seen the dozen or so loaded mags in my bag).

Well after a long day of pistol shooting we headed back to the motel.  On the way back into town, I saw their vehicle pull into a LOWES parking lot.  I turned around and parked by their truck to see what they were picking up.  Each one of them came out with a pair of heavy duty knee pads, their next stop was to the CVC drug store where they picked up gauze and bandages for scraped elbows.  Yup, needless to say my friends were a little less macho the next day.  During the carbine session, I felt sorry for them as I watched them load throughout the day; mags with some very sore looking thumbs from the day before...

Makes for some good stories at deer camp...
