Probably moving out there next summer. Looking for an area inside Maricopa county that is fairly safe and affordable. Am I dreaming?

No, you're not dreaming. I'd personally look in Mesa/Gilbert/Chandler.

Housing in good neighborhoods is very affordable right now. I live in north phoenix and love it, you really can't go wrong out here.

There is good priced and nice areas around, just be sure to do your research and "field work" and see what fits you best.

Fiancee is an experienced RN, with several years in the emergency room. She will have a good job before we move out there. I'm experienced LEO and will probably try to land something in one of the jails and work my way up.

If she is looking to stay in the Nursing field, Mesa/Gilbert and Queen Creek is the best bet. A new hospital was built in Queen Creek, and a new cancer center in Mesa. My Wife is a RN as well, and working for Banner is better than not working at all.

We just bought a house in Gilbert. Paid about 50% of what it was going for 3-4 yrs ago. Hell of a lot of good deals. If you dont mind doing some work. A lot of properties are Short Sale's or Foreclosure's. Our's was a SS. And we've spent the last few months painting, redoing the lawn, replacing lights/fixtures. The ppl at Home Depot know me by name now.

At least the illegals work for a living and can't vote.

Amend 3 to be about Californians and you've got it.

I have to put in another vote for Gilbert.  I moved here from another part of the valley in January and have been very happy with the decision.  It's a fantastic town.
