Anyone happen to have an abundance of king snakes on their property.... and feels like catching a couple?  I am looking for natural rodent control.... ie I want to release a few king snakes on our property to feed....

what does a king snake look like? I suck at snake ID so you're going to have to help me out, I have at least one gopher snake running around my place though.

King snakes are black with white bands.
Sounds like you need gopher snakes for rodent control. Gopher snakes get bigger, and eat several rodents at a time. They're garbage cans.
The only advantage to king snakes is, they eat other snakes including rattlesnakes.

Red touch black = friend to Jack

Red touch yellow = kill a fellow

edit: We have a red-black-yellow variety of king snake around here, so it's a good saying to remember. Have yet to see the Arizona coral snake around Prescott Valley.

I would have to agree with using Gopher Snakes. They can grow to lengths of 5+ feet and eat all sorts of rodents. If you had a rattlesnake problem I would suggest Kingsnakes.

The nice thing about gopher snakes is that if you cruise desert roads in the evening, you always seem to see a few basking in the middle of the pavement. You just have to be quick to catch them, most drivers will go out of their way to run them over (must think they are buzzworms).

Edit: My kingsnake (captive bred).

HAHA!  btw a good whiff of jack daniels will get them off your hand fast and safe.  I used to just open the bottle and wave it near the offenders head, of all the snakes I owned It was only really the one king below.

King snakes are funny I had three california kings, a speckled king snake, and a prarie king at one point.  they all had way different personalities!  of the 3 cal kings one was always hungry, always tried to constrict and eat my finger, one was just skittish but never tried anything, and the third one was very chill and did not care what I did to him.  The speckled and prairie were also very chill and curious.

We have lots of wild jacks here and we like them.... I didn't consider the gopher but I think the Gopher snake would kill our jack population too...  We also have no known rattlers around here.

We really hate the rats....

I have handled a large number of those, or their CA brethren.  Most are rather small and pretty relaxed.

King Snakes are awesome! Rattlers will avoid their scent trail. Since I have had Kings & Gophers around there have been no Rattlers :)
