Hey guys, I am kind of new to the state. I have been in the state for about 5 years now and still haven't gone on any hikes. I really need to. Anyone willing or able to "lead the way" and get me out of doors? I figure with the heat down, now is the time.
Let me know, Brian |

I live in East Mesa...202 and 60 freeway. Your really close to usury park and the Sups. Usury is a great place for a short hike after work, the Sups have much more to chose from. linky This is the most popular hike close to town I would say, great hike and it will give you a good feeling on what East Valley hiking is all about. |

Do a search for the cave creek trail system. Lots of trails in that area and you can choose based on how long you want to be out there. I went up to Black Mesa last year, i started at 10:00 am and got back to my car at 5:00. Weather is perfect right now for this.
On the east side of town do a search for the lost dutchman's trail. I also hear the San Tan mountains have some nice trails. If you want to drive a little and do a hike with a great view go up to four peaks. Awsome view up there. the trail is short but the last bit that involves some basic rock climbing is pretty fun. I also went up there when the snow was waist deep. Fossil creek by payson is also a good hike and not really difficult if your experienced. http://www.arizonahikingtrails.com/phoenixhikes.asp I always look for the harder trails but they just dont seem as bad as they rate them. I do hike alone with my G19, but i let people know where i went so they can find the body
I prefer it that way so i can go at my own pace usually, but if someone moves at my speed then thats better. |

I do most of my hiking off the trails I like to go up in the mountains near the rim and just walk . If you got a compass and a map and a rifle you are good to go anywhere. A little cold up there right now though. I have beeen planning to do some prospecting up in the superstitions. Still laggin on a metal detector though and some info . decided my frst AR was a better christmas purchase but once I get one Ill probably be up there at least twice a month for some all da trips. If I go ill post in here and you are welcome to join. |

Superstitions have some great ones first water battleship peralta I like the mogollon rim as well Horton Springs is a great hike. Fossil springs as mentioned above. All the above hikes are what I would like to call, nice hikes. not death marches, not trail finding trips. |

Maybe you are right, locals don't hike :) Oh well, maybe I'll have to take it to a "granola forum" to find someone to hike with. Should be fun! I hike, just cant right now.. Ill let you know next time I go, I have a few places I want to go that I have not been yet. |
