is a nut.

I heard him speak in Yuma, Tuesday night at Booth Machinery to the Republican Committee.

Initial impression is good, conservative, speaks OK, but not well. One of his points that deserves more investigation is that the AZNG has been federalized for some time and is not under the authority of the governor. Slaton proposed to put militia, minuteman, border watch type groups under the flag of government protection from harassment charges, etc. by putting them under the Arizona Rangers an ersatz government agency.

Yep, Rangers, those guys that direct traffic at funerals. I guess this would be his version of the state guard that was proposed a few years ago, but never got traction. It would be a good idea to have a state guard, one that couldn't be federalized in any way, it makes sense. But Mr. Slaton lost a lot with the mention of bringing it under the Arizona Rangers.

(I personally think that once we start deporting illegals they will go home. Sooner is better than later and they will divest of their real estate and go home on their own time frame in order to do it more orderly, unless they get caught, then it's goodbye, TODAY. Once SB1070 is fully enforced the problem should take care of itself and existing border controls should be able to handle it, unlike they do now. )

I dismissed the rangers bit and kept listening. More good stuff, fiscal conservatism, local control of schools, etc. etc. Then He brings up building a monorail to connect all of rural Arizona with the population centers. He uses Disneyland as an example of an organization that "really knows how to move people".

?!?!

Tin Foil Hat time, here we come.

I had to ask a man sitting next to me if he said "monorail" and he said that he had. OK, so it's not malaria kicking in and giving me hallucinations, He's serious.

During question time I gave Mr. Slaton an example of Yuma's failed Mass transit boondoggle, YCAT,  and asked him how it would be justified to create a monorail system in Az, seeing how most public transportation systems fail or are publicly funded money-holes. Slaton responds with "it would be private".

I counter with "if it was such a great idea, don't you think some enterprising person would have done it already ?

Slaton responds "we'll drop the regulatory requirements and ease the way for private enterprise to build the monorail". Seems he's been asked this already.

I don't think Mr. Slaton is in the private sector. Governments don't just drop safety or regulatory or code rules for the sake of growth. Even when that is the best thing to do.

I find the idea laughable and the notion of a government controlled monorail to centralize all the proletariat downright scary. Soviet Russia did this with their farmers and look how well that worked.

I don't see people moving to Arizona because we have great mass transit. It's not what we're all about. People move here because you can be 100 miles from nowhere, that's the cool part about it. If someone wants to be closer, by all means, let them move closer to where-ever it is they want to be closer to.

Mr. Slaton seems like a really nice guy, just not Governor material.

He lives in Winslow, BTW and he seems to be making the rounds in Az to drum up support for his bid. Be nice to him, maybe he'll go away.

I'm supporting Jan Brewer.

Good Grief man, WHY?

Everybody here is jumping up for joy over Brewer because she signed 2 pro gun bills and 1070.

Brewer has an A rating from NRA.

Look at Martin. He is rated A+ from the NRA. Dean Martin even called Brewer to urge her to sign the constitutional carry bill. She let it sit for 4 days before she signed it. It almost went to law on its own.

Look at the tax that she wants us to vote yes for. You want to support that? She was given a balanced budget last October, but due to her line item vetoes it became unbalanced. Now we are operating without an approved budget.

Dean Martin on Illegals

This afternoon, Treasurer Dean Martin stood with dozens of ranchers from southern Arizona in support of the Cattle Grower’s Association “Restore Our Border” (ROB) security plan in response to the escalating lawlessness in southern Arizona due to failure by the government to secure our border.

“It is unacceptable that our borders have been allowed to become so porous that criminals can operate with near impunity and that lives and properties are literally at stake. Years ago, I proposed legislation to deploy the National Guard to put radar camera equipment and a physical fence along the border. Unfortunately, our former Governor, and now Secretary of Homeland Security vetoed these attempts to secure our border. Now our current Governor, who has been in office more than a year, has done little to secure our border, but simply point the finger at Washington.” Treasurer Martin continued, “I urge state and federal leaders to act upon the Cattle Grower’s plan immediately. These are reasonable measures, it’s time to set politics aside and do what’s right for the people of Arizona.”

You are free to do as you please, I am just trying to point out that we can do better than Brewer.

Brewer had the balls to protect our state. I might not agree with her on everything, but she has my vote!

I am hearing this too much. No it doesn't.

There is a primary election first. Brewer vs Martin vs Mills. I am voting for Dean Martin. He has the knowledge to get some things done around here.

After the primary we will see who goes against Goddard. If it is Martin I would like to think that you people here would support him so we don't wind up with Gov Goddard.
