Hi Gang,

   I'm fairly new to AR15.com.

I'm looking at getting a laser bore sight for .223/5.56.  I'd like to
know what works for you guys and gals.  Also what doesn't
work as well.

I'm located sw of Marana in the Avra Valley.  Any other of
you located down this way.

OK,
I'll probably take heat for my opinion but....

I've never needed the use of a laser bore sighting device for any of my rifles.
Even my 50BMG I visually bore sighted at a 300yd target then adjusted my scope to poi and it was very close.

I find it so simple to do it the old fashioned way - set a target up at 25yds zero the rifle and go from there.

I have nothing against laser bore sighter devices, they actually work pretty well - but I think that you really don't need to spend that money when you really don't have to.

cheap like me

keep in mind when I bought mine the first one was 99 instead of 69 dollars
the second one is harder to use, because you have to use the adaptors to clamp in the barrel. can get very frustrating.
if I repurchased now, it would be the first one, expecially if you own an ar.

You can find cartridge shaped laser bore sighters for cheaper than the one above. I have one myself, and think I only spent maybe 30 bucks on it.  Check Brownell's.  Either way, they work fairly well for initial sighting for red dots and optics.

He's right, but I'd probably shop around for one that has interchangeable sleeves.

For red-dot, laser, and scopes I bought the Bushnell for $25 and have used it on 9mm, 5.56, .22 lr, 7.62x39 + 7.62x51, and .40   -very easy, very fast, and saves ammo.

I've gotta agree with this.... pull the upper, rest it on sandbags or other suitable device and boresight it.... cheap and easy.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the responses.  I have sighted in rifle with out a bore sight
before and have had good success doing it.  I must admit I hadn't thought
about pulling the upper to bore sight.  I just put together my 1st AR.
Most of my rifles are bolt action C&R milsurp.  But I have a couple of
.22 semi-autos that it would be easier with a bore sight.
I will do some more looking on the web.  We are going to the Game &
Fish Outdoor Expo the end of the month.  We will make a side trip to
 Cabela's.  I have a $50 gift card for them.
