It's not that hard, you file your paperwork and collect your signatures.
If a member of a party (Rep, Dem, Lib) your party should be able to help you out. When I ran for state senate we had one of the party folks file the paperwork for everyone running.

Honestly, I'd vote for Hitler or Charles Manson over virtually any incumbent politician right now, that's how bad it's getting. At least with them you know where you stand

I think incumbents are going to have a relatively bad year...

Which means only 90% of them might get elected instead of 95 %
