I hope you don't mean my ignorance . here is a clip of many other leaders shaking hands ,while Obama bows so low he almost blows him. http://www.youtube.com/?v=5U6fL7Y4BZA
He went there to beg them to buy our debt. he shows the whole world how weak we have become .There is, in fact, no protocol calling for an American president to bow to the emperor of Japan, or anyone else, for that matter |

Should have edited your quote out. It was directed at the other guy. Bowing like Obama has been doing is NOT culturally correct in any way. To the other guy, do a little research on proper bowing in Japan. |

great ,I misunderstood you .I a'm plenty ignorant on a lot of subjects . as far as bowing to anyone ,my Grandfather,my Dad and I all served this great country ,so we would never have to bow to any man . perhaps Obama would know that if he also served. Quoted:

While I don't think Obamatron should have bowed, I think it's being blown up too much. It is funny that the left uses Nixon as the example of another President bowing before the emperor. I guess it's fitting, Nixon and Obama being compared to each other.
My point is that we have to ignore this minor crap and focus on what he is doing to the US dollar and our future. I am telling you that one day the American people will get it, but it will be too late. If a country owns your debt, they OWN YOU. Your sovereignty will be gone, and that large country in the Far East that is sucking up our jobs will be calling the shots. Ed |

He does it to all foreign dignitaries right before he apologizes for America and then publicly demeans American traditions and values. It will be interesting to see if he orders the American flag to dip, (bow), during the Olympics' opening ceremonies. Would be the first time in history. He's a disgrace. |

You should be embarrassed for opening your mouth with that trash your spewing. The leader of the free world doesn't need to bow to anyone. He is just showing what a real fuck tard he is and embarrassing our country. ![]() |

For better or worse he is the President for the next 3 years.
He needs to hire someone to tell him what to do at these events so that he looks "Presidential". He's a rookie and it shows. Stupid shit like how you do/don't bow, give/not give gifts or what fork you use really does convey things to people, especially when you're dealing with older cultures. Small gestures and body language can carry alot or weight in some places and the President dosn;t seem to know this or have anyone on his staff to set him straight. |

I don't really have a problem with bowing. I personally think of all the greetings it's one of the more interesting ones. However, Obama did screw it up. I think this perspective sums it up nicely.

It's going to be a very long next 3 years .I never said he blew him . I was saying he bowed so low he ALMOST . I respect the Office,it's it's currant holder I have no faith in . perhaps he should hire a protocol czar . In a meeting with the press in China, President Obama said that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed would be "convicted" and had "the death penalty applied to him" ... and then said he wasn't "pre-judging" the case. He made the second statement after it was pointed out to him — by NBC's Chuck Todd — that the first statement would be taken as the President's interfering in the trial process. Obama said that wasn't his intention. I'm sure it wasn't — he's trying to contain the political damage caused by his decision — but that won't matter. He has given the defense its first motion that the executive branch, indeed the President himself, is tainting the jury pool. Nice work.
he says and does so many stupid things ,how can I have faith in him . |

What exactly are you recommending? Overthrow the concept of a government of/by/for the people? Substitute a government of, by and for you? So much for uphold and defend the constitution eh? I have to disagree with you. It is NOT time to "take" the country from the hands of The People, even if they can be cowardly and helpless from time to time. It's time to strengthen and awaken the people so they do not vote like cowards, and do not herd like sheep, so they can take it back themselves with their vote. Seems to me that would be the American way. I happen to think that a government of the people, by the people, for the people is a good thing if you can keep them focused on maintaining it. |
| As Americans we believe all people are created equal, as such there is no bowing. Japan started the war and was defeated by us in WWII .They were barbarians ,and treated the POW's worse than any other country in history.Their culture is was what caused the war . We rebuilt their whole country and economy . If they still expect people to bow to their emperor, they have not changed . Common respect and equality is the only hope for this planet . Anyone who expects other people to bow to them is part of the problem .not the solution . The emperor of Japan is no better then PRESIDENT .Obama ,and he should not treat him as if he was.I want to be able to get behind and support President Obama . If he would just get in the CENTER ,AND STOP MAKING SO MANY MISTAKES. Man I miss Ronald Regen . |

Bowing in Japan is like handshaking in the US. You wouldn't go to someone else's house for dinner and not thank them would you? |

We declared our independence, fought a revolutionary war, and implemented a constitution, which was written by free men, so we would never again have to bow before kings, queens, or even emperors, To do so, invalidates all the blood that was shed so that we can be free men and women and not subjects. This especially applies to the representative monarch of a country that launched the attack and invasion of so many Pacific countries, including the U.S. |
| Ok, this is one reasons I've stopped posting here; anyways, here we go. As taught to me and practiced in the martial arts since I was 5: "... the bow is a sign of respect, not worship..." Although we (in Kenpo) bow to the ancient masters, we do not serve them. Bowing (and doing so properly) is akin to shaking hands, saying "good morning" or "thanks". The POTUS did screwed it up a bit but when visiting those countries, it is polite to respect their culture. I was raised with a heavy japanese influence and still tend to bow a little when shaking hands or meeting people. That doesn't mean I will not take your head off if I need to. |
| I guess I'm just an old fashioned kinda guy. A hand shake and a smile is good enough . I like single action pistols,Chevy trucks, and cars ,porterhouse steak (rare ) mashed potato's ,cold bottled beer (Bud) Single Malt Scotch neat apple pie ala mode and a President that is a fiscal Conservative who keeps his campaign promises and has some Balls. I may not see one like that again in my life time .So I vote No more bowing or apologizing . |

Hey crux your not going to change my views or the distance i'm willing to go to keep them, I spent 6 years in the Army and more in reserves, you might have a better chance over on Martha Stewarts website converting SHEEPLE.
The one thing you have to realize is that SHEEPLE can not be converted.....You will never turn a COWARD into a WARRIOR....GOOD LUCK The thing I want is for our Country to MAN UP get some BALLS and start following the CONSTITUTION and not keep trying to change it and twist it. GOD SAVE OUR COUNTRY FROM THESE LIBERAL DOMESTIC TERRORISTS.......................... |

In the terms of the Asian cultures, the bow should be at equal levels, and done correctly. Doing it incorrectly is more disrespectful to the recipient than abstaining.
In the eyes of people who bow to others as a respectful form of greeting every day, what Obama did would be considered SUPPLICATION. He did not pay respect... he simply f*cked it up, made himself look like a fool, made him and our nation look weak, and probably embarrassed the living hell out of the Japanese "Emperor". There's no excusing it. In western terms, it is like he took a knee and kissed the King's ring. He's a head of state. Even more, the head of THIS state, and this amateurish shit needs to stop. As does the apologizing for him. |
