I was just in my local Wally World for some early morning Sunday shopping and I (as always) cruised thru the Sporting Goods Department just to check on ammo availability. Hot Damn! There were cases stacked on the floor behind the counter, and the shelves were at least 70% full already! The guy there was even unloading more off a pallet jack to boot. I commented that it looked like ammo availability was finally starting to come back to normal and he replied "Yeah, we're finally starting to see our inventory back up somewhat". WOO-WOO!! On a whim, I asked if he had any 22LR and he had in fact just placed 3 cases on the floor. I asked him how much and he replied "Ten bucks per brick" and pulled one out to show me. Now I remember back in the day when a "brick" was 500 rounds, but what he had in his hand was definitely NOT what I remembered a brick to be. He handed it to me and upon inspection the box said "333 rounds" (what kind of `fricken gimmick is that?) and if I remember correctly it was Federal ammo. So I politely handed it back to him and said thanks for the looky-see. So here is my question to you all –––– is that a good / cheap / fair price for 22LR these days? I haven't bought any 22 for many, many years and I haven't kept up with it's pricing. Should I run back down today and pick up a few boxes, or is this the run of the mill every day price?
Thanks for your input guys! Bear |

Welcome to the future, Bear. That's about what it costs these days - there are still 500rnd bricks but that 333rnd crap is a Winchester gimmick. I have seen 500rnd bricks go for as high as $30 at the local fun store, and that is no joke.
If I were you, I'd go back and pick up some 333rnd bricks. |
| I found the "small" bricks of Federal .22lr at WW a couple of weeks ago. I think they were $12 +. The 550 rd bricks of Federal were $14+ at WW the last time I found them. The arithemetic works out to about a 20% price increase per round for the smaller Federal bricks. Don't see that changing much. |

I don't look often, but I did find Federal 550 bulk pack in the Scottsdale 101 Wmart for $15.50 about a month ago.
ETA: oh yeah, they were selling one box at a time, and the boxes were under the register, out of sight. Not sure if there's a secret password or handshake, I just said I want what that guy just purchased. |

To me a "brick" is 500 rounds in 10 50 round boxes. If it's not in smaller boxes it's a "bulk pack".
Last weekend at Cabela's they had the Aquilia 500 round bricks for $37. So $10 for the bulk pack 333 round boxes is unfortunately probably about the going rate these days. |

| They had a bunch of 9mm and .22lr up here in Prescott last week. I bought a bunch of it, not sure if there is anymore. Then I went to Colorado for Thanksgiving and they had a bunch up there, too, so I bought some more. Add that to my "bought it cheap and stacked it deep" stash, and I'm ready for any Zombie / Mad Cow / small rodent invasion. |

I'd give a left over burrito to find out just who in the hell has been hoarding 22LR ammo for the past full year. This country must have millions of nimrods ready to take on the Zombies with the SHTF with their 10-22's. Hey... it's all about where you place it.... My 10-22 can eat away a dime at 100yds on a good day.... quarters on the days where there is wind and I am on my game.... Richard |
