Getting a little tired of Cox.  What's the local experience with Direct TV and/or Dish.  Seem to be a lot of antennas around, so it can't be too bad.

I made the change to Direct TV about 10 months ago after 14 years with Cox.  Best move I ever made.

What are you paying for Cox? I am up to $149 a mo for phone/cable/internet/DVR. No pay channels, just expanded cable.
It was $124 just two years ago...kills me to pay this kind of $$ monthly for something I don't fully use.

I pay around $140 for phone/internet/TV.  No DVR.  The old TV died and bought an HD––guess that's all you can buy–– and Cox cannot supply an HDMI  HD cable box

i pay about 130 for phone/internet/directv. I have directv on 3 rooms, HD/DVR's and i get all channels minus the premium channels (HBO etc)

It's been my experience that the picture quality from Direct TV or Dish is consistently superior to Cox. I gave up on Cox years ago for cable TV, but I still use them for high speed internet and phone. It costs a bit more that way, but at least I feel as thought I am getting the best of what each provider has to offer: Dish for TV, Cox for internet.

Do the Direct TV installers run cable through the attic and down the walls, or do they drape it outside the house and then drill in?  That could be pretty ugly for multiple rooms.

What's prevented me from making the switch for years is that Cox cable is already in the wall everywhere.  Direct TV told me they can't use the existing Cox outlets.

i agree about the picture vastly superior imo, we use cox for internet, but qwest for home phone/adt alarm.

I went to Direct Tv.It was either that or Dish network.Got rid of ComCast and saved money. We work with ACN so we could probably get you a pretty good deal on it.

Is that the SLOW Speed DSL ?  The reason I ask is that for equivilant performance vs COX, my bill was going to be $145/mth.  I figured it wasn't worth the hassel for $4.00/month.

Also I contacted Direct/TV and one of their TECH's told me that they could use the coax that exists in my house.

Cox supplied me with an HDMI box last month when I bought my HDTV.

The only hole they need is to the DVR, they can use the cox connections for the regular boxes, thats how they did mine.

Same here. I haven't had any problems with my cable/internet either. When I was living in Utah and had Quest internet and satallite TV it was another story. Ugh. I'll never go back.

We made the big mistake of trying Dish Network.

Sucked. Dish does not install their own equipment (they use a separate contractor) and so you get the joy of having two, two TWO times the contractual agreements (and cancellation penalties) if you decide after using their crappy service for two days to pull the plug and cancel the deal (even though their contract says in big bold letters I'd have three days to rescind the deal*).

Their box just... stopped working on the third day we had it. Their customer support consists of LITERALLY hours on the phone rerunning the same troubleshooting procedures. You will NOT get anyone to come out to actually FIX anything. After hours of that bullshit on the phone with them (and after nearly being able to speak Hindi myself) they finally said for me to send them the broken box and when they receive it, they'll inspect it and send me a new one. Could be up to a week or more before I would receive a new box. Fuck that bullshit.

Oh, and this was the SECOND time I gave them a shot at providing me with service. The first time a few years ago, we only lasted about about a year with them. Got fed up with their selections, prices, packages and customer service.

So we gave them a chance... twice. NEVER again.

Dish Network nothing but pure horseshit.

Cox cable for the motherfucking win.

* fine print: commencement of installation voids that three day window of cancellation. pretty neat huh.

I had Dish Network like for years, then just over 3 years ago I wanted a DVR/Tivo. They wouldn't give me a break so i said F'em and went with DirecTV. BIGGEST MISTAKE I EVER MADE. I had several repeated horrible experiences with DTV. Equipment was bad, had to replace the DVR 4 times before they sent one that worked, service billed was not the service offerred/agreed to, the list goes on and on. My 2 friends joined around the same time ttoo.

So last year I dumped them as the contract was up. I looked at all available and went back with Dish. I get all the channels plus Showtime and with autopay you get Skinemax for a penny/month for a year. 3 rooms (2 run off same DVR which is cool) 3rd room is standalone box. No issues for about a year now.

I am thinking about going to Cox for internet. We are dropping homephone all together. Only people that call are telemarketers, and others wanting monety, surveys etc.

I'm up to $170/mo for expanded cable + the sports shit + internet + phone.

The problem I've got is DirectTV/DishNetwork is the extra costs incurred for 3-4 TVs.

That and i'm not excited about playing the contract game.

We have Dish Network.  All the channels minus the Premium Movie channels.  HD Channels, Locals 2 DVR's feed 2 TVs each, for the price of $80.00 a month.

The Picture quality will always will be.  With Satellite the only thing holding back the quality of signal is the wires in your home, compared to the miles and miles out in the streets with cable.

Personally I like Dish over Direct TV.  I feel the Dish DVR's are far far superior than D-TV's

ETA:  I have never had a bad experience with Customer service, i seem to always get free programing or something.  When ever I have a Box issues if I cant fix it i tel them I need a new box.  They send it right out and give me a box to send the old one back.

Yes they have there own installers and sub contractors.  My good friend is one of those, he hires quality guys.  I trust a guy named Alex to do the installs.

The reason why they can not use the existing wires in the wall is the older stuff may not be able to handle the bandwidth.  Also there is a steel core copper coated Coax out there that is junk.  Its dirt cheap to buy so lots of builders use it.  You really need the solid copper coax wire to handle HD.

The guy who hooked up my Dish Network fucked up my surround sound audio connections and I had to fix that myself.

Also, the HD channels were not quite as crisp as the Cox Cable HD channels. I was able to switch between the Cox receiver and the Dish receiver for a side-by-side comparison. Cox won that comparison. At least that part was hooked up right.

And after I canceled, they wanted ME to climb on the fucking roof and uninstall their dish receiver doohickey and send them the "brains" of the antenna. I told them they could suck my dick and if they want their POS "brains" they can come over and get it themselves.

Glad you're satisfied with what you have - but I tried them twice and will never go with Dish Network ever again.
