Did y'all see it?
Just a little past 0900, the shuttle was piggyback on its 747 heading east.
Flying low and slow, for a 747 anyway, at about 12k feet.
I thought is was cool...its ok, you can call me a geek.

I saw it do a fly-by in 98-ish in Fl when I was stationed at EglinAFB. It's a pretty awesome sight.

When the SCA flies into the mid-west, it usually flies over the Chino marker.
I was hoping for another mid-west landing, but it flew to Ft Bliss El Paso today, so it took the southern route.

The last time the SCA flew over the Chino marker, I got video of it from horizon to horizon.

The first time I saw the SCA here back in 2000, it flew in about 7000 feet, over Embry Riddle, to get all the future NASA engineers fired up.
For me, that's better than seeing it land or take off.

No, up here in The Valley.
I am very close to Luke AFB.
I was told by my NASA buddy, who went to Edwards AFB as part of the recovery team, that Luke was one of the "safe havens" if they ran into trouble or bad weather.

The shuttle carrying aircraft used to be parked and maintained out at Pinal air park a.k.a. Evergreen. One of the birds was always parked there, and sometimes they would do fly-bys. How do I know this well I worked out there from 2002-2007. And I even worked on the SCA's while they where out at Evergreen. lots of neat or secret squirrel stuff would come through there .

I worked at that shlt hole in the early 1990's changed the belly skins on one of the SCA's 907 I think and as for the secret squirrel stuff their is noting to see move along.

Yes just like the jump school for secret squirrels just across the runway. ( Oh and you can look it up on Mapquest& google map so no OPsec violation). Yes the green is a crappy place to work but I did work on a great crew. And there was so neat stuff flying around Pinal Air park.
