I emailed him when the BATFE's first kicked in the door at Cav Arms, asking him to keep an eye on them.

Here's his  reply:

Thank you for contacting me regarding gun control. I appreciate your concerns regarding this matter.

Congress, like the American people, continues to be divided on the issue of controlling firearms as a means of addressing the appalling level of violence which besets our nation. I do not believe, however, that the answers to these problems lie with gun control. We cannot resort to abridging law-abiding citizens' Constitutional rights in order to solve the tough problems that face our nation.

Criminals, by definition, have a patent disregard for the law. It would be dangerously naive to assume that they would abide by gun restrictions. Washington, DC, is an excellent case-in-point. The District has the strictest gun control laws in the nation, and yet holds one of the highest violent crime rates as well.

I will continue working to stop violent crime and those individuals who have or would abuse their Second Amendment rights. While addressing these important concerns, rest assured that I will ensure that the rights of honest, law abiding citizens are not abridged.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to do so regarding this or any other matter of concern.

Sincerely,

John McCain

United States Senator

He did reply - Yay!
His letter differs from one I got 6 or 8 year ago, where he used the phrase "Reasonable Controls". (I can't find it at the moment, or I'd quote it.)

Anyone else get a response from him?

Nothing specifically about Cav, not that I expected that.

I'd like to hear his take on the ATF's powers.

Form letter.  It basically says "I care about you, I really do, but don't bother me with this shit cause I'm a really important war hero and a senior senator and can't be bothered with your petty concerns".

In the years I've lived in AZ I've written McCain at least a dozen letters, both email and snail mail and have never gotten the courtesy of a genuine reply, form letters every time.

I've never gotten a reply from McCain from anything I've ever written to him.

Kyl responds to everything I sent him and it appears he or his staff actually READ what I wrote.

Is CavArms in Flake's district? If so, he's my rep too.

HR 4900 and the NRA

That's something that I'm keeping an eye on.

I've worked for the Phoenix VA hospital for many years.  I advocate for my Vet's everyday.  As a last resort I've taken my Vet's to Sen. McCain and Sen. Kyle's office and asked for their help.  A Senator can ask the VA questions which usually has good results for the Vet - It's called a congressional inquiry and is taken very seriously by the VA.
Sen. Kyle's office has always tried to help my Vets with multiple inquires.
Sen. McCain's office gives good lip service to the Vet and I but that's where it ends - 0 inquires.
I've tried hard to like McCain over the years.  His inaction in helping my Vet's means I will not be voting for him come November.

Flake replied to me indicating that he couldn't legally make inquiries without my permission. (he must have assumed I was/am an CavArms representative)

He sent a release form for me to sign so that he could make the appropriate inquiries. Obviously, I couldn't do anything with it, but I thought it telling of his willingness to look into the matter.

I had a different experience with Senator McCain.  When Bobby Armbruster was diagnosed woth Agent Orange Cancer BEFORE it was recognized as a military related cancer from VN.  Bobby was refused treatment.  John McCain was instrumental in getting Bobby into the Phx VA and then getting Agent Orange recognized.  Whe the Tucson VA refused to allow the Agent Orange folks who have the brain type of Agent Orange to go to a movie the Catalina theater was going to show for them, (The claim was no civilian clothes for the 6 years olds.)  Yes I said 6 years olds, for some reason this particular strain seems to reduce an adult to a 6 year old mentality for a few years before it kills. (Embarrasing for civilians to wantc former 11B's and 3111's crying over spilled popcorn.)  The ward nurses came to AMVETS Post 89 and we personally drove a truck with clothes the students at Buena had gathered.  Sen McCain walked into the ward with us and we dressed the fellows, put them on a chartered bus that had been donated by another member and took them to the Catalina Theater.  Great fun by all.
Of course Bill Clinton was in his last year or so but I've always respected Sen McCain for than.
